Week 14 NFL Lock PicksJosh Bailey
We are steamrolling towards the final act of the 2016 NFL regular season. At this point of the season, it seems like winners are winning (Dallas) and losers are losing (Cleveland). Strong teams are gelling, weaker teams are playing like their seasons are over. There’s enough tape on even the most private and devilish of offenses. Add all of that and finding must bet on lock picks week to week can get tricky. Unless you use my Week 14 NFL lock picks to bet big and win big.
2016 Week 14 NFL Lock Picks
Will Detroit continue its winning ways against NFC North rival Chicago? How will Atlanta do under the SoCal sun versus Los Angeles? Can the NY Giants add another loss to Dallas’s almost pristine record?
Chicago at Detroit
When: Sunday, Dec. 11 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
Odds: Detroit -8
Analysis: The Lions did something that almost no other defense has been able to do this season, that’s force Drew Brees into making mistakes. To say that Detroit’s 28 to 13 win over New Orleans in the Super Dome in Week 13 was surprising is an understatement.
It was Detroit’s defense that really impressed. The Lions have solidified themselves as the top team in the NFC North. I don’t think any team in the North, unless Green Bay truly gets it together, can challenge Detroit.
In Week 14, Chicago is toast.
Week 14 Lock Pick: Detroit
Atlanta at Los Angeles
When: Sunday, Dec. 11 at 4:25 pm ET
Where: L.A. Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, CA
Odds: Atlanta -6
Analysis: The team that Atlanta lost 28 to 29 to in Week 13 is one of the better teams in the AFC. There’s no shame in the loss. The great part about it is that both Carolina and New Orleans lost as well. But Tampa Bay won forcing a tie atop the South Division.
Luckily, Atlanta gets to stomp all over the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday. Too bad for Rams’ fans that they’ve already had to face Drew Brees and Tom Brady in a row the past couple of weeks. Now, the Rams’ face hot Matty Ice who has a 112.3 QB rating.
Atlanta should have no trouble covering the spread. The Falcons’ defense will play much better in this game facing rookie Jared Goff than it did facing vet Alex Smith.
Week 14 Lock Pick: Atlanta
Dallas at NY Giants
When: Sunday, Dec. 11 at 8:30 pm ET
Where: MetLife Stadium, Meadowlands, NJ
Odds: NY Giants +3
Analysis: The only blemish on the Cowboys’ record is the Week 1 loss to the NY Giants. Since that time, Dallas has gone undefeated straight up. The Giants haven’t been bad. The G-Men have gone 6-1 straight up in their last 7 games.
The difference, I think, in this game is how the Cowboys have shown signs of weariness. Dallas couldn’t cover in a 31 to 26 Thanksgiving Day game win over Washington a couple of weeks back. In that game, the Boys’ D allowed Kirk Cousins to throw for close to 450 yards and 3 TDs.
In Week 13, the Minnesota Vikings held the Cowboys to only 17 points in a 17 to 15 Dallas win. That was another non-cover. The Giants go into this battle off a road loss against Pittsburgh. Before that, they had played very well.
I think the New York Giants win this one straight up.
