NFL Week 6 Lock Picks
Can Pittsburgh keep the good times rolling against a reeling Miami team on the road? Will Philadelphia bounce back from its first loss of the season against NFC East rival Washington? What will happen in one of the great rivalry games in NFL history when Kansas City travels to Oakland in Week 6?
Pittsburgh at Miami
When: Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, FL
Odds: Pittsburgh -7.5
Analysis: Miami goes into this game off of its absolute worst performance of the season. The Tennessee Titans blitzed the Dolphins for 30 points in Week 3. The Fins gave up 235 rushing yards and 30 points to the Titans who beat Miami 30 to 17 in Week 5.
In Week 6, Miami has to deal with Oakland’s offense. Things should get ugly for the Fins who have absolutely not shot of holding RB Le’Veon Bell from amassing close to 150 rushing yards. Bell could catch enough Big Ben passes for another 100 yards receiving in this game. The Steelers roll to an easy 20-point victory on Sunday.
Pick: Pittsburgh -7.5
Kansas City at Oakland
When: Sunday, Oct. 16 at 4:05 pm ET
Where: Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, CA
Odds: Oakland -2
Analysis: Oakland is the real deal. The Raiders beat the rival San Diego Chargers 34 to 31 as a -3.5 home favorite in Week 5. Oakland’s offense has been impressive this season. It’s ranked third overall in offensive yardage per game at 391.6. The Raiders rank 5th in points per game at 28.4 per.
Oakland should have no trouble putting a beating onto Kansas City’s offense in this game. Pittsburgh scored 43 points versus KC’s defense. San Diego scored 27 in Week 1. Oakland has a great shot of covering the 2 points simply because their offense, with Derek Carr under center, is better than Kansas City City’s in what should be a high-scoring affair.
Pick: Oakland -2
Philadelphia at Washington
When: Sunday, Oct. 16 at 4:25 pm ET
Where: FedEx Field, Washington, D.C.
Odds: Philadelphia -2
Analysis: I’m not sold on Washington’s offense. Sure, QB Kirk Cousins has seemingly turned it around, but Washington averages a paltry 86.4 rushing yards per game. That’s not going to cut it against the more disciplined teams in the NFL.
Philadelphia is one of those more disciplined teams. After allowing Detroit to score 21 points in the first half of their 23 to 24 loss to the Lions in Week 5, Philly’s D only gave up a field goal to Detroit in the second half.
What’s impressive is how the Philadelphia coaches made the necessary adjustments on both offense and defense in order for the Eagles to outscore Detroit 13 to 3 in the second half. In that sense, it was a win for Philadelphia.
The coaches may not have to make any adjustments against Washington. I think the Eagles roll in Week 6 to an easy 14 to 17 win over Washington.
Pick: Philadelphia -2
