New England QB Tom Brady Getting Hit

Major Super Bowl Betting Implications In Dolphins Patriots Matchup

The loss of Rob Gronkowski alone has big Super Bowl betting implications, but the New England Patriots are standing relatively strong as +1200 mid-favorites in the futures market regardless. The Patriots now limp in to Miami after a very questionable victory over the Cleveland Browns last weekend. And make no mistake – the Dolphins are much better than anyone is willing to admit.

Miami remains in the playoff picture as a wild card hopeful and they’ll need Baltimore to fall flat on their faces down the stretch to have a chance. The Dolphins are a pretty laughable Super Bowl contender, but they’re still in the mix and if this season has taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected. Miami has a road trip to Buffalo and a Week 17 game against the Jets to finish the season after this game. If they can get over the hump that New England represents, they are prime to make an unexpected run at the post season.

The New England Patriots are 2 point favorites over the Miami Dolphins in week 15.
Starts: 12/15/2013 1:00PM
Sun Life Stadium, 347 Don Shula Drive
Miami Gardens, Florida

I have been admittedly critical of Ryan Tannehill throughout the year but he was solid in challenging conditions last weekend on the road against Pittsburgh. He threw for 200 yards, 3 touchdowns and a pick while scrambling for 56 yards on just two carries. The rushing game has opened up after a sluggish start as well, and with Charles Clay, Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace at receiver, the Dolphins are more than capable offensively.

The Dolphins are +7000 to hoist the Lombardi Trophy, which would practically be a money burn, but gamblers have been cashing in on their hard work over the last handful of weeks. Their spread record over the last six games might surprise you as they’re 4-2 SU and 5-1 ATS. Fans of Miami might want to believe that this team is capable of a championship run – and anything can happening in the post season – but where this matchup has huge Super Bowl betting implications is with their opponents.

Tom Brady has seen more crucial teammates go down this season than anyone else. The Pats have lost three of their best players in Jarod Mayo, Vince Wilfork and Gronkowski. The most impactful Super Bowl odds implications in this game include New England securing that vaunted second seed so they can earn a bye week. To do so they have to figure out how to move forward without their star tight end, while keeping as much forward momentum as they can after a very lucky win last weekend against Cleveland.

But the lingering and present problem for New England is a Miami team that is scoring a +4.6 point differential over their last 6 games. Miami hasn’t beaten New England in over three seasons, but if you can establish the run against these Patriots – which Daniel Thomas and Lamar Miller certainly can – you have a chance to win. The Dolphins can keep their very slim playoff hopes alive by playing well beyond their potential in this game, while dealing a crippling blow to New England’s.

New England has survived injuries all season, but this is simply getting to be too much. This matchup doesn’t just have major upset potential, it has huge Super Bowl odds implications as well. If New England loses, and they might, it will wave a red fag over this injury depleted Patriots.
