Should You Bet On The Kansas City Chiefs Line At +9

The Kansas City Chiefs went 2-2 in the preseason and are coming off a fantastic 12-win campaign in 2016 that saw them fall just short of advancing to the conference championship. Kansas City was phenomenal defensively last season in ranking seventh in points allowed (19.4 ppg) although their offense could use a bit of a boost despite ranking a respectable 13th in scoring (24.3 pg).

Head coach Andy Reid looked to the future after Alex Smith by drafting strong-armed rookie signal-caller Patrick Mahomes II in the first round of the draft.

Now, heading into 2017, the Chiefs will try to get it done with nearly the same cast of characters from last year’s team, starting with Alex Smith, speedy wide receiver/returner Tyreek Hill and pro bowl tight end Travis Kelce. With starting running back Spencer Ware likely out for the season, the Chiefs will use a running back by committee approach featuring Kareem Hunt, Charcandrick West and C.J. Spiller while Smith plays his usual brand of ‘safe’ passing.

“I think we’re going to be okay there,” head coach Andy Reid said on Sunday. “Now listen, are you going to replace Spence? No he’s a good football player, but the young kid (Kareem Hunt), he’ll step in and he’ll do a nice job for us, and Charcandrick’s (West) got reps under his belt, C.J. (Spiller) has reps under his belt so we’re okay. I don’t want to take anything away from Spencer and how important he was to our team, but that’s a position where we have a little strength, so we should be okay.”

Defensively, the Chiefs have a bunch of Pro Bowl caliber players like Justin Houston and Tamba Hali and one of the best secondaries in the league with perennial Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Peters and safety Eric Berry leading the way.

Should You Bet On The New England Patriots Line At -9

The New England Patriots went 1-3 in the preseason, but who cares? New England has won two of the last three Super Bowls and are favored to do so again in 2017 and rightfully so, seeing as how they actually improved their roster in the offseason by signing both new No. 1 wide receiver Brandin Cooks and new starting running back Mike Gillislee in free agency and will have perennial Pro Bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski back on the field after he missed virtually all of last season.

Led by the incomparable Tom Brady, New England ranked a stellar third in scoring (27.6 ppg) while also ranking a stupendous first in points allowed by limiting the opposition to just 15.6 points per game. Defensively, the Patriots have three Pro Bowlers on their roster in Devin McCourty, Malcolm Butler and Dont’a Hightower.

The only bad news coming out of training camp for New England is the season-long loss of veteran wide receiver Julian Edelman, who suffered a torn ACL in the preseason.

“We’ve got great chemistry together, and he’s an incredible player,” Brady said. “But someone will have to step up.”

New England Vs Kansas City Line NFL Week 1 Final Score Prediction

I’ve gone on record several times this summer to say that I like the Kansas City Chiefs to cover the spread in this Week 1 opener and I still do everyone. There aren’t many teams in the AFC that could challenge the Patriots in the AFC but I believe Kansas City is one of them, mostly because their defense generally keeps them in every game.

Kansas City is just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in the month of September, but they’re also 6-0 ATS in their last 6 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall.

On the other side, Tom Brady and company are also 18-6-2 ATS in their last 26 home games, but I’m adamant that New England will cover the spread in this opener, while actually pushing the Patriots for the outright win.

Final Score Prediction New England 21 – Kansas City 13
