Why Bet The NY Jets To Beat The Bills
The NY Jets lost a tough matchup last week to the Cincinnati Bengals by a score of 23-22. New York played well enough to win but lost the game due to missed opportunities. A blocked field goal kick, a poor third down conversion rate of 3-12 and a late interception thrown by QB Ryan Fizpatrick all contributed to the Jets’ first L of the season.
Shockingly the Jets outrushed the Bengals 152-57. Between RBs Matt Forte (96 yards) and Bilal Powell (41 yards), the rushing attack had balance and explosiveness. They will need to continue to run the ball effectively against an aggressive Bills defense to give Fitz a chance to find an open pass catcher.
The Jets offense, however, can improve as a whole. Fitz’s long off-season hold-out showed. The Jets recorded only 188 passing yards against Cincinnati. Their top receiver Brandon Marshall had only three catches for 32 yards. Last season, Marshall and wideout Eric Decker combined for over 2500 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns.
New York’s defense has always been their saving grace. The Jets defensive line manhandled the Bengals o-line and sacked QB Andy Dalton seven times; five in the first half alone.
Jets’ CB Darrelle Revis had an off night this past week. Dalton targeted A.J. Green 10 times when Revis was in coverage on him, and completed all 10 passes. That’s 152 yards and a touchdown against the man once known as Revis Island, and an astronomical 152.1 passer rating for Dalton.
Why Bet The Bills To Beat The NY Jets
Buffalo is coming off a 13-7 loss to Baltimore. Their offense was horrific, recording just a total of 160 total yards. Their run game was atrocious with 65 rushing yards. And their passing game was nonexistent with 95 yards.
Those numbers won’t become a trend. I’m sure the Bills will look for a quick fix. But with an ailig Sammy Watkins (foot) may be a cause for concern.
Against a Jets defense that is more aggressive in the pass rusher, QB Tyrod Taylor will have more chances to scramble. Taylor had just 11 rushing yards on five carries last week. His passing game should improve if his offensive line can give hime a clean pocket. He completed 15-22 passes for 111 yards against Baltimore. Taylor is a dual-threat quaterback and will gives fits to the Jets D.
“We can’t panic. I feel like a lot of people are panicking, like, ‘Oh, we lost the first game.’ Yeah, we lost the first game. Offense played bad. We gotta move on. It’s a long season. And this is the type of league it is. We’ll come out here this week and if we have a great game, you won’t even talk about next week. That’s how it works”, HC Rex Ryan said in the press conferences previous to this game.
The Bills defense will give them a chance every week. Last week, they sacked QB Joe Flacco four times. They also held the Ravens offense to fewer than 90 rushing yards.
The Bills are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following a straight up loss, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. AFC East teams.
Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
Both teams know each other very well. The problem for the Bills is they have a predictable offense that lacks a big-time playmaker. If the NFL odds shift to favor any side, grab the points on the NFL week 2 odds and bet the favorite.
My final score prediction is NY Jets 21, Bills 20.
