The Jets are off to a horrible start to the new season. They have lost QB Geno Smith for up to 10 week after he was sucker punched by a teammate in the lock room.

If the reports from Detroit’s training camp are accurate the NFC better be prepared for the Lions. Megatron is healthy again. Rookie RB Ameer Abdullah maybe ready to take over the backfield sooner than later.
A Closer Look At The New York Jets at Detroit Lions Preseason Week 1 Odds, Analysis & How To Watch
Can the New York Jets Cover the 3-point Spread versus Detroit?
So Rex Ryan was the Jets problem.
The New York Jets were a very good rushing team in 2014. The Jets managed to average 4.5 yards a carry as a team last season. Chris Ivory, their top RB, averaged 4.1 yards per carry. The Jets added former Ram Zac Stacy during the off-season to their running back corp. Stacy had a down year in 2014 when averaging only 3.9 yards per carry.
Stacy should benefit rushing behind the Jets very good offensive line. He figures to get the bulk of the carries versus Detroit’s front 7 in the first NFL preseason game of the year. If the Jets are able to run the ball versus Detroit’s front 7, which doesn’t have Ndamukong Suh to take up 2 blockers any more, NYJ should do enough to beat the Lions.
This game should feature every QB the Jets have in their stable after losing Geno Smith to a broken jaw for 6-10 weeks. According to multiple reports, the Jets haven’t decided on a starting quarterback. They’ll want to see if either Smith or Fitzpatrick is going to be able to lead their team. That could work to the detriment of the Jets beating, or even covering the spread versus Detroit. Allowing Smith and Fitzpatrick to throw the football could lead to a big Detroit win.

Can The Detroit Lions Cover the 3-point Spread versus the Jets?
The window for a Lion’s Super Bowl run is closing fast.
The Detroit Lions figure to have one of the top offenses in all of football this season. QB Matthew Stafford threw for 4257 yards and 22 TDs last season. It was also a down year for an oft-injured WR Calvin Johnson. If Megatron bounces back, Stafford’s numbers should be better because Golden Tate has turned into a very good wide receiver for the Lions.

The defense will go through some growing pains. But, that won’t be immediately felt in the first NFL preseason game of the year. What might happen is that Detroit could play coy on offense in this first preseason matchup. The starters on offense are set: Stafford at QB, Megatron and Tate wide receiver, and Joique Bell at running back. It’s doubtful that any of those guys play more than a series or two in this matchup.
NFL Preseason Week 1 Final Score Prediction: New York Jets 17, Detroit Lions 6
The Jets’ defense is too good for Detroit’s second stringers to put up a ton of points.
