Is Oakland A Smart Bet To Cover the 3-point Spread Against the Seahawks?

Don’t be surprised if the Oakland Raiders’ defense ends up being one of the best units in all of football during the regular season. So far during the pre-season, the Raiders’ defense has been fantastic. Thanks in no small part to stud Khalil Mack. Versus St. Louis the defense gave up only a field goal. Versus Minnesota the D gave up only 20 points and versus Arizona the defense gave up only 23 points.

What football fans have to remember is that Oakland’s defense didn’t play its starters for the entire game against any of those opponents. At half time versus the Vikings, a team that has won 9 straight NFL Pre-season games, the score was Minnesota 13 and Oakland 9. At half time versus Arizona, the score was Oakland 15 and Arizona 3.

Oakland’s defense forced Arizona starter Carson Palmer into an 8 out of 22 performance for only 103 yards and a 4.7 per pass average. Palmer threw 2 interceptions and was sacked 3 times. If the Raiders are able to get the same type of pressure against Seattle’s back-up quarterbacks in Week 4, they should cover the spread in this matchup.

Is Seattle A Smart Bet To Cover the 3-point Spread Against the Raiders?

Seattle is no doubt going to rest their starters for most of the game versus the Oakland Raiders in this Week 4 NFL Pre-season matchup. The Seahawks can’t take the chance of letting either QB Russell Wilson or RB Marshawn Lynch get hurt during the final pre-season game.

Since Seattle will be resting their starters, the likely man at running back who could shine in the final pre-season game is Christine Michael. Michael has a lot of talent but as of yet he hasn’t had the chance to show it because he’s always played behind Marshawn Lynch. Any fantasy football fan will tell you that Michael is a must pick if you draft Marshawn Lynch. He’s what’s called a “handcuff”.

Versus San Diego, Michael carried the football only 7 times. He rushed for 37 yards for a 5.3 average. If Michael is able to produce comparable numbers versus the Oakland Raiders in this pre-season game, the Seahawks are likely to cover the spread.

The reason why is because Seattle’s defense has been terrific during the NFL Pre-Season. It allowed KC to score only 14 points in Week 2 and San Diego to score only 15 in Week 3.

I predict that the Seahawks will beat the Raiders by a final score of 14-13.
