2014 NFL Thursday Night Football Picks

Week 3 – 09/18
Buccaneers at Falcons
CBS/NFL Network

The Buccaneers are rebuilding under respected head coach Lovie Smith while Atlanta tries to continue its ‘rebound campaign’ after suffering from a severe case of Murphy’s Law a year ago.

Bet The Falcons.

Week 4 – 09/25
Giants at Washington
CBS/NFL Network

New York and Washington will square off in the nation’s Capitol in this Thursday night affair with both of these NFC East rivals looking to rebound from respectively mediocre campaigns in 2013. I’m thinking the outcome of this contest will come down to which starting quarterback, either Eli Manning or Robert Griffin III, turns the ball over the fewest amount of times.

Bet Washington.

Week 5 – 10/02
Vikings at Packers
CBS/NFL Network

The Vikings and Packers will face off in one of their perennial NFC North matchups, which, generally, are tightly contested affairs. The bottom line for this Thursday night thriller will be whether or not veteran quarterback Matt Cassel can outplay Packers elite signal-caller Aaron Rodgers.

Bet the Packers.

Week 6 – 10/09
Colts at Texans
CBS/NFL Network

Andrew Luck and the Colts will look to win this AFC South clash – while taking a big step toward keeping the Texans from going from worst to first after their flop of a season in 2013.

Bet the Colts.

Week 7 – 10/16
Jets at Patriots
CBS/NFL Network

Sure, there’s always a lot of media hoopla surrounding this perennial AFC East throw-down, but most of it is generally just a lot of hot air coming out of the mouth of Jets’ head coach rex Ryan.

Bet The Patriots

Week 8 – 10/23
Chargers at Broncos
CBS/NFL Network

Maybe it’s me, but I have a funny feeling that Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers are going to challenge Denver for division supremacy in the AFC West this season. Of course, I could feel a lot different once this Week 8 matchup is over.

Bet The Broncos.

Week 9 – 10/30
Saints at Panthers
NFL Network

Carolina won a surprising 12 games last season, but I’m thinking Saints future Hall of Fame signal-caller Drew Brees is going to give Panthers quarterback Cam Newton a lesson on how the position is really supposed to be played.

Bet The Panthers.

Week 10 – 11/06
Browns at Bengals
NFL Network

While I believe it’s quite possible that exciting rookie Johnny Manziel could start for the Browns at this late point in the 2014 season, I don’t think it really matters much who’s under center for Cleveland as I fully expect Cincinnati to challenge for the AFC conference crown in 2014.

Bet the Bengals.

Week 11 – 11/13
Bills at Dolphins
NFL Network

The Bills and Dolphins both kicked off the 2014 season with impressive victories despite being underdogs in their respective openers.

Bet the Bills.

Week 12 – 11/20
Chiefs at Raiders
NFL Network

The Chiefs and Raiders will stage one of their perennial AFC West battles in this Week 12 showdown – and I’m thinking the rebuilding Raiders will have a great shot to win this one if rookie quarterback Derek Carr continues to build on the impressive maturation he’s shown early on.

Bet The Raiders.

Thanksgiving Day – 11/27
Bears at Lions

The Bears and Lions will square off in an NFC North divisional battle that could have playoff implications for one or both of these teams. Personally, I’m betting on Matthew Stafford over Jay Cutler far more often than not.

Bet The Lions.

Thanksgiving Day – 11/27
Eagles at Cowboys

The high-scoring Eagles will look to exploit the mediocre Dallas Cowboys – who are looking to avoid becoming the first team in league history to go 8-8 in four straight seasons.

Bet The Cowboys.

Thanksgiving Day -11/27
Seahawks at 49ers

Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick will go at it in this rematch of last season’s NFC title game. The outcome of this NFC West thriller could very well decide which team gets home-field advantage throughout the NFC portion of the playoffs at the very least.

Bet The Seahawks.

Week 14 – 12/04
Cowboys at Bears
NFL Network

Maybe it’s me, but I can already see Chicago’s Matt Forte scorching Dallas, both on the ground and out of the backfield as a receiver. I smell a possible 200 all purpose yards day waiting to happen for the versatile Forte.

Bet The Cowboys.

Week 15 – 12/11
Cardinals at Rams
NFL Network

The Cardinals are one of my top picks to compete for a playoff berth despite playing in the same division as Seattle and Frisco. They’ll face a St. Louis Rams team that almost assuredly won’t have much to play for at this point.

Bet The Cardinals.

Week 16 – 12/18
Titans at Jaguars
NFL Network

While I suspect Jacksonville won’t have much to play for in this contest, I suspect Jake Locker and the Tennessee Titans could have a potential playoff berth riding on the line.

Bet The Titans.
