The Odds-On Favorite To Win Super Bowl 51: New England Patriots 13/2
The Patriots remain the favorite even though Tom Brady will miss the first four Patriot regular season games. Terrific Tom isn’t likely to keep arguing about the whole Deflategate thing. Why? Everybody is tired of it, including Tom.
In any case, New England looks awfully difficult to beat in the AFC. But betting on the Pats as a 13/2 favorite to win the Super Bowl in the deeper conference makes no sense. New England will make the playoffs. The odds make them unbettable to win the Super Bowl.
The Smart Betting Pick To Win Super Bowl 51: Cincinnati Bengals 14/1
I prefer the Bengals. Things might have been different for Cincinnati in their playoff game loss to Pittsburgh last season if QB Andy Dalton had been healthy. Cincinnati has all of the pieces on offense to dominate on that side of the ball. RB Giovanni Bernard could be one of the better RBs taken in fantasy this season. He’s a do it all back who should get the majority of the touches.
When the Bengals need a bit more size in the backfield, they’ll turn to Jeremy Hill. A.J. Green remains one of the top WRs in the NFL while Dalton had a breakout season in 2015. The key will be the defense. Losing safety Reggie Nelson could have an impact. But, Marvin Lewis is a defensive guru. He’ll find a way to lessen the pain of losing Reggie.
The Longshot Betting Pick To Win Super Bowl 51: Jacksonville Jaguars 50/1
QB Blake Bortles stats from last season, over 4,000 yards passed and 35 touchdown passes thrown, implies that he’s on the cusp of greatness. It helps that wide receivers like the Double-A’s, Robinson and Hurns, are there to support Bortles. What’s going to help this year is having a dynamite defense loaded with college studs like cornerback Jalen Ramsey and linebacker Myles Jack. The Jags picked up the 2 defensive players in the draft that coach Gus Bradley absolutely wanted. Jags have a much better shot to win the Lombardi Trophy than 50 to 1.
