NFL Preseason Week 3 Free PicksJosh Bailey
NFL Preseason Week 3 is usually when teams play their starters before resting those starters in the final week before the regular season kicks off. This makes for a much more realistic betting outcome for most games. I have a trio of free picks you can use to cash in now.
The celebration still isn't over for the Patriots. https://t.co/02DTQ2jcJH

The first game I like in NFL Preseason Week 3 action is between Miami and Philadelphia. Is Miami the team to beat when they step onto Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday, August 24? I also like one of the teams in Friday’s matchup between Kansas City and Seattle. Who takes it when the Chiefs head to the Great Northwest to battle the Seahawks? The final game I like for my free picks is also on Saturday. It’s the La-La-Land Rams versus the Carson City Chargers. Which Los Angeles NFL team takes it?
NFL Preseason Week 3 Free Picks
Miami at Philadelphia
When: Thursday, Aug. 24 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA
TV: NFL Net
Odds: Philadelphia -2
Analysis: Although Miami lost 7 to 31 to the Baltimore Ravens in NFL Week 2, there were some silver linings to the Dolphins’ performance. First, QB Jay Cutler, the anointed Miami savior after Ryan Tannehill went down to a season ending injury, completed 3 of 6 passes for 24 yards. 50% isn’t mind-blowing. But, hey, Cutler didn’t throw a pick.
That’s a great positive. Also, Miami was down 7 to 13 at halftime. What it means is that when Miami played their starters, they hung with the Baltimore Ravens. It wasn’t until the second half that Miami broke down on both defense and offense.
With that being written, Philly looked pretty good in their 20 to 16 win over Buffalo in their NFL Preseason Week 2 win. Philly rookie RB Corey Clement rushed 8 times for 34 yards and a TD. He looked great.
Since Philadelphia’s starters should play for at least a half on Thursday, I like Philly to cover the spread. I’m not sure how long Miami coach Adam Gase plays Cutler. He can’t take the chance of Cutler getting hurt before the regular season.
I like Philadelphia.
Pick: Philadelphia ATS
Kansas City at Seattle
When: Friday, Aug. 25 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: CenturyLink Field, Seattle, WA
Odds: Seattle -2.5
Analysis: Both teams rocked it in NFL Preseason Week 2. Kansas City beat Cincinnati 30 to 12. Seattle beat Minnesota 20 to 13.
Seattle’s win over the Vikings was ultra-impressive. But, let’s be honest. Seattle played QB Russell Wilson long enough for Wilson to throw for 206 yards and 2 TD passes. Does Seattle take the chance of playing Russell that long in this game?
Doubtful. KC’s defense, even if their second stringers play, can be very aggressive. That could hurt the Hawks. The last thing they need is for Russell to go down with an injury.
Without Russell throwing the ball 18 times, Kansas City figures to come up with the win in this game.
I like the Chiefs straight up.
Pick: Kansas City straight up by at least 3 points
L.A. Chargers at L.A. Rams
When: Saturday, Aug. 26 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: L.A. Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, CA
Analysis: I don’t see how the odds makers decide between the Bolts and the Goats in this game on Saturday, August 26. The citizens of Los Angeles are just happy that it takes place at the L.A. Coliseum.
Nobody ever wants to drive all the way to Carson. In any case, I’m going with the L.A. Rams to beat the L.A. Chargers in this game. The Rams have a new attitude with Sean McVay as their coach.
Not only that, but Jared Goff looked great in the Rams’ 24 to 21 win over the Oakland Raiders in Week 2. Goff should get plenty of reps in Week 3. McVay must get Goff ready for the regular season. Plus, McVay’s offense isn’t an easy system to grasp.
Goff can use as many reps as he can get. That’s why the Rams win this game going away.
Pick: L.A. Rams straight up by at least 6 points
