Why Bet the Oakland Raiders Line At +2.5
Oakland went 0-4 in the preseason by losing to the Cardinals, Rams, Cowboys and Seahawks while never scoring more than 21 points in any playoff game. The Raiders went 12-4 last season but saw their playoff hopes take a big hit when Carr went down in Week 15 with a broken fibula. Oakland’s still young signal-caller was an MVP candidate last season after throwing for 3,937 yards with 28 touchdowns and just six interceptions.
“We just keep growing and the thing that I love about our team is no matter what’s going on, when we step out there or step in the weight room or the film room, we work our tails off,” Carr said. “We try to get every little note, we try to get every little thing out there on the field ironed out and cleaned up. As long as those things are happening, we can continue to grow. Now, 12 wins are not easy to do and I’d never make projections and things like that but, we always want to continue to grow in our process and what we’re trying to do.”
Oakland ranked a stellar seventh in scoring by putting up 26.0 points per game, but they were also uninspiring on defense in finishing 20th in points allowed (24.1 ppg). To address their needs, the Raiders drafted cornerback Gareon Conley and defensive back Obi Melifonwu while also adding tight end Jared Cook, running back Marshawn Lynch and wide receiver/kick returner Cordarelle Patterson.
Why Bet the Tennessee Titans Line At -2.5
Tennessee went 1-3 in the preseason while losing to the Jets, Bears, and Chiefs in Weeks 1, 3 and 4 while beating Carolina in Week 2.
The Titans went 9-7 last season while ranking 14th in scoring (23.8 ppg) and 16th in points allowed (23.6 ppg). To address their needs on both sides of the ball, Tennessee drafted gifted wide receiver Corey Davis with the fifth overall pick in the draft and athletic cornerback Adoree’ Jackson with the 18th overall pick.
Tennessee also signed veteran wide receiver Eric Decker, cornerback Logan Ryan, defensive tackle Sylvester Williams and safety Johnathan Cyprien in free agency. Now, Mariota is fired up about the upcoming campaign after breaking his fibula in Week 15 just like Derek Carr.
"This is probably the last benchmark. This is my thing. This is what I worked for all offseason to be prepared for," Mariota said. "I can’t wait. It’s been a long road. I look forward to being out there and having fun."
Oakland Raiders at Tennessee Titans NFL Week 1 Final Score Prediction
I’m going to say that the best pick for this Week 1 pairing is a simple pick for the Over, seeing as how both of these teams can score the ball, but enter the 2017 season needing improvements on the defensive side of the ball.
The Over is 6-1 in Oakland’s last seven games in the month of September and 8-3 in their last 11 games overall. The Over is also 7-3-1 in Tennessee’s last 11 home games and 9-4 in the Titans’ last 13 games overall. As far as the straight-up winner is concerned, I’m going to say Mariota and the Titans get the win in a contest that comes down to the final possession or two of the game.
Pick: Titans 31 – Raiders 28
