Can The St. Louis Rams Cover the 1-point Spread versus Oakland?
The new look Rams are ready to take the lid off of a new roster.
A lot of football analysts feel that the St. Louis Rams are ready to take the next step and grab a NFC Wildcard berth this season. St. Louis is led by Coach Jeff Fisher arguably one of the best coaches in the NFL. Fisher made a trade during the off-season for former Philadelphia Eagles’ starter Nick Foles. Foles is going to need to improve from his 81. 4 QB rating in 2014. He should be able too since Fisher employs a more drop back offensive scheme than Philly and Foles has WR Brian Quick, who is emerging as one of the better wide receivers in the NFL, to throw too.
Foles won’t be able to do it alone versus Oakland in the first NFL preseason game of the year. The Rams are going to have to run the ball with Tre Mason and Ben Cunningham. Top pick Todd Gurley is hurt. Mason will get some carries, but the bulk of the carries in this contest will go to Cunningham since Mason is likely to start during the regular season. Cunningham will need help from Foles and back-ups Case Keenum, Austin Davis and Sean Mannion if the Rams hope to cover the spread.
Can The Oakland Raiders Cover the 1-point Spread versus St. Louis?
The Raiders have the pieces to just win baby, but will they?
The Oakland Raiders are in a different situation than other NFL teams going into the 2015 NFL preseason. While most other teams will sit their starting quarterback, especially in the first preseason game of the year, Oakland may not have that luxury.
Derek Carr is entrenched as the Raiders’ starter under center this season. But, his best chance at success, the team’s best chance to score points, is if Carr develops a rapport with veteran wide receiver Michael Crabtree and soon to be rookie sensation Amari Cooper. Cooper, who dominated SEC corners when playing for the Alabama Crimson Tide, has looked spectacular during training camp. Crabtree has looked good as well. Do the Raiders sit Carr for most of the first NFL preseason game or do they decide to play Carr for an entire half so that he can develop a rhythm with Crabtree and Cooper?
NFL Preseason Week 1 Final Score Prediction: Oakland Raiders 24, St Louis Rams 17
The Raiders’ decision will determine whether or not Oakland covers the game in this matchup. If they sit Carr early, St. Louis could win by a touchdown because nobody is as good at playing QB on the Raiders’ roster.
