Should you bet on the Rams over the Saints
The Rams are the lone undefeated team in the NFL at 8-0. Los Angeles has already chalked up wins in front of two of the leagues most hostile fan bases, beating the Seahawks 33-31 in Seattle and the Broncos 23-20 at Mile High.
L.A.’s offense has been powered by superstar rusher Todd Gurley II who has run for 11 scores and caught four more touchdowns. Last season, the Saints did keep Gurley out of the end zone in a 26-20 loss at Los Angeles last season. What happens if the Saints slow down Gurley again? That puts the game into the hands of QB Jared Goff.
Goff has thrown for 2,425 yards and 17 TDs so far this season. He has the weapons to beat most NFL teams with his arm alone and the New Orleans D has been kind to opposing passers. The Saints rank 28th in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game, 30th in passing yards per attempt allowed and 30th in opponents’ passer rating.
WR Robert Woods leads the team with 672 receiving yards. Quick pass catcher Cooper Kupp leads the team with five receiving TDs. The Rams average of 291.8 passing yards per game ranks 7th. Moreover, this marks former Saints WR Brandin Cooks first trip back to New Orleans as a Ram. Expect Cooks to get a lot of targets in this blowout game.
Does that mean you should bet on the Rams to beat the Saints in New Orleans?
Not so fast. The Rams’ have the 13th-ranked defense in the league. Plus at times L.A.’s D has been more susceptible against the run than against the pass. That could open the door for the Saints rushing duo of Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram to do some damage.
Should you bet on the Saints over the Rams
The Saints are 6-1 and have not lost since a season-opening defeat to Tampa Bay. New Orleans last three victories have come against then division-leading Washington, Baltimore, and Minnesota. Is that enough to warrant a bet on the Saints to beat the NFC West-leading Rams?
New Orleans has the offensive weapons to keep pace with the Rams. The Saints passing offense ranks 9th in the league with 281.9 passing yards per game. The rush offense ranks a disappointing 17th with 108.0 yards per game. That is mostly due to Mark Ingram missing the start of the season due to a PED suspension. He is back and should be hitting mid-season form.
Earlier this season, QB Drew Brees became the league’s career leading passer and fourth quarterback in history to throw 500 touchdowns this season.
Bad news for the Saints is rookie edge rusher Marcus Davenport will miss this game on Sunday because of a toe injury.
ATS Pick Los Angeles Rams vs. New Orleans Saints
Both of these teams are a must watch. Each week they put on an offensive show perhaps only surpassed by Patrick Mahomes in KC.
The Saints average 33.4-points per game while allowing 26.1. For the Rams, those numbers are 33.0 and 19.4 respectively. This will be a high scoring game that will go down to the last possession.
Bet the Over and the Saints are my ATS pick to win at home.
