Steelers Vs Chiefs Line & ATS Pick

There is an ice storm due to hit Kansas City on Sunday and it must be a doozy. The NFL has taken the rare step of moving the kickoff time of a playoff game making the Steelers vs Chiefs tilt the latest playoff game to ever start on a Sunday in the postseason.

With public safety concerns as the reason, the NFL moved kickoff of this AFC divisional playoff game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, originally scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET Sunday, to 8:20 p.m. ET. The NFL Pittsburgh vs Kansas City NFC Divisional round betting line favors the Chiefs by 1.5-points.

In the early days of October, the Chiefs traveled to Heinz Field and got hammered by the Steelers, losing 43-14 in a Sunday night game. The 29-point deficit was one of the season’s biggest blowout defeats suffered by a team that eventually made the playoffs. That loss left the Chiefs 2-2 on the season. Afterward, the team won 10 of the next 12 games and captured an AFC West division title. Now let’s find out who has the edge in this rematch.

Why Bet The Pittsburgh Steelers To Beat The Chiefs

The Pittsburgh Steelers finished 11-5 in the regular season and were 5-3 on the road. Their current eight-game winning streak includes four consecutive wins away from Heinz Field. This is important because on Sunday they play at Arrowhead Stadium, one of the loudest, toughest venues in professional football.

The Steelers are 12-5 SU and 10-6-1 between the playoffs and the regular season. They average 24.8 points per game (11th) and allow 20.4 points per game (10th).

The Steelers average 262.8 passing yards per game (5th). QB Ben Roethlisberger (3819 yards, 29 TDs & 13 INTs) had an off-day by his standards despite the win against Miami. He completed 13 of 18 passes for 197 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Roethlisberger suffered an ankle injury on the last play of the game.

"(The MRI) showed I aggravated an old foot fracture but nothing severe," Roethlisberger said Monday. "I should be good to go."

WR Antonio Brown (106 rec, 1284 yards, 12 TDs) dashed the Dolphins postseason dreams early last week with two long touchdowns in the first quarter. He finished with five receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns. The Steelers average 110.0 rushing yards per game (14th).

Last week, RB Le’Veon Bell (261 car, 1268 yards, 7 TDs) ran for 167 yards and two touchdowns last week against Miami. It was a record-setting rushing performance in Pittsburgh postseason history. Back in October, Bell put up 144 yards on 18 carries against Kansas City.

Bell is redefining the position. His patience at the line of scrimmage, his quickness through the hole, his ability to juke guys out of their jocks at the second level, not to mention his pass-catching skills — he’s legitimately a once-in-a-generation-type running back. Think Marshall Faulk but bigger.

Pittsburgh has the 12th-ranked total defense in the NFL. They allow 243.0 passing yards per game (16th) and 100.0 rushing yards (13th). The Steelers have recorded 38 sacks this season (9th). They sacked Dolphins QB Matt Moore five times. LB Lawrence Timmons led the team with 114 tackles, and LB James Harrison had five sacks.

Why Bet The Kansas City Chiefs To Beat The Steelers

The Kansas City Chiefs had a bye week after finishing 2nd in the AFC this season with a 12-4 SU and 9-7 ATS record. They average 24.2 points per game (13th) and give up 19.4 points per game (7th). KC has lost four straight home playoff games, but they also earned a first-round bye. We mention this because Andy Reid-coached teams are 16-2 coming off a regular-season bye and 3-0 after playoff byes. Immovable object, meet unstoppable force.

“This team understands how far we’ve come from that game,” quarterback Alex Smith said about the Chiefs 43-14 loss in week four. “For us, we’re certainly not the same team and every week is different. You got to put in the work and, obviously, every Sunday is different. I think that we enjoy that challenge.”

The Chiefs average 233.8 passing yards per game (19th). QB Alex Smith (3502 yards, 15 TDs & 8 INTs) has a 2-3 record in the playoffs. TE Travis Kelce (85 rec, 1125 yards, 4 TD) ranks first in efficiency among all tight ends. In the previous matchup against the Steelers, Kelce was held to just five catches for 23 yards. If the Chiefs want to advance to the AFC Championship game, that has to change. Rookie WR Tyreek Hill (61 rec, 593 yards, 6 TDs) has been clocked at 4.24 in the 40-yard dash which is the fastest player Steeler LB Ryan Shazier has ever seen (Shazier ran a 4.36 at his Pro Day).

Kansas City averages 109.3 rushing yards per game (15th). RB Spencer Ware (214 car, 921 yards, 3 TDs) averages 4.3 yards per carry.

Kansas City has the 24th-ranked total defense in the NFL. The Chiefs allow 247.0 passing yards per game (18th) and 121.1 rushing yards (26th). They recorded 28 sacks this season (28th). DB Eric Berry had 77 tackles and LB Dee Ford 10.0 sacks.

If You Still Can’t Decide Who To Bet On:

  • Pittsburgh is 6-1-1 ATS in its last 8 games
  • Pittsburgh is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
  • Pittsburgh is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games on the road
  • Pittsburgh is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games on the road
  • Pittsburgh is 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games when playing on the road against Kansas City
  • Pittsburgh is 2-4 SU in its last 6 games when playing on the road against Kansas City
  • Kansas City is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games
  • Kansas City is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games

Expert ATS Pick & Final Score Prediction

The Steelers are a very popular public team when Big Ben, Bell and Brown are all healthy and on the field together. Pittsburgh opened as 2.5-point favorites early and now as slight underdogs, the public is backing them big.

Sportsbooks here in Vegas and also offshore opened Pittsburgh as a short road favorite, but early sharps jumped on Kansas City and flipped the favorite. Part of that is Andy Reid’s record of 19-3 with an extra week to prepare (regular season byes and playoffs).

My final score prediction is Kansas City 24, Pittsburgh 20.
