There will be a deflated team in the 2015 NFL betting season opener this year. It’s not the Patriots. U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman vacated Tom Brady’s suspension yesterday. Now its the Steelers who will are shorthanded due to suspension.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 7-point underdogs on Thursday, Sept 10th against the Patriots. The O/U is 54.

Why Bet On Pittsburgh To Beat New England (-7)

Two key offense stars are out due to suspension.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense suffered another blow when WR Martavis Bryant, who had looked like one of the best deep threats in all football the past few weeks, suffered a 4-game suspension. This is on the heels of RB Le’Veon Bell’s 3 game suspension. Both due to substance abuse. Perhaps the worst loss was center Maurkice Pouncey going down with an injury. But, NFL bettors shouldn’t write off the Steelers so quickly.

As long as QB Big Ben Roethlisberger is throwing footballs to WR Antonio Brown, the team should be able to put up points. Big Ben gets to also work with underrated WR Markus Wheaton who could take the opportunity and run with it now that Bryant is out for a month. Wheaton had 3 catches form 4 targets and a touchdown versus Green Bay in the Steelers’ 24 to 19 win over the Packers in the pre-season.

Former Carolina Panther DeAngelo Williams appears ready to take over running back duties while Bell is out. Williams can still motor. He has good instincts and he’s a veteran. The Steelers’ offense should be in good hands.

Out or doubtful for the Steelers: Le`Veon Bell, Martavis Bryant

Why Bet On New England (-7) To Beat Pittsburgh

With Brady and Belichick on the warpath, can we crown the Pats AFC East Champs before Week 1?

QB Tom Brady will get to suit up this Thursday. That is definitely enough of a reason to put money on the New England Patriots. Brady adds something to the offense that nobody else in the New England’s system can. His ability to exploit the seams with TE Rob Gronkowski and slot receiver Julian Edelman, both of whom haven’t shown up on any injury reports, makes the trio one of the toughest in the NFL to handle.

Brady will work behind a decent offensive line. LeGarrette Blount is out until Week 2. No problem. The Patriots have a bevy of running backs including Branden Bolden, Jonas Gray and Travaris Cadet. Cadet in particular could serve in the Shane Vereen role from years past by catching the football out of the backfield.

After the suspension on Brady was lifted, New England’s offense went from being just okay to one of the best in the NFL. The NFL week 1 spread jumped from New England -3 to New England -7 in a matter of hours.

Out or doubtful for the Patriots: LeGarrette Blount, Brandon LaFell, Alan Branch

As good as Pittsburgh’s offense is going to be, it’s difficult to see an elated group of Patriots not covering the NFL week 1 betting spread in this matchup. Brady and the Pats should roll to at least a 10 point victory. My prediction is New England 31, Pittsburgh 20.
