Sunday Night Football Betting Line – Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles

NFL Week 14 Thursday Night Football Betting Odds - Dallas Vs. Chicago

Sunday Night Football Betting Line – Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Even though they’re both division leaders, there’s no way you can be fully engaged with either team involved with the Sunday Night Football betting line. The Eagles will host the Bears as -3.0 home favorites, with both teams holding on to narrow leads in their respective groupings. Philadelphia has a one game lead over Dallas, while Chicago is being pressed by Green Bay and Detroit in the standings. If these teams don’t win their divisions, they won’t make the playoffs. Both teams need wins here, but just like the case was in the Thunderdome, only one can leave with the victory.

Even after losing against Minnesota, Philadelphia is the team that holds the momentum. They started that game sluggish, while Minnesota roared out of the gates, and a late game comeback was all for naught as Chip Kelly’s crew fell 30-48. That loss snapped their five game winning streak and dropped them to 4-2 ATS in their last 6. Nick Foles, who has been ballistic during that stretch has piled up massive yards and 17 touchdowns and just two picks in those games. But he’s not the deciding factor with this Sunday Night Football betting line.

Chicago Bears (8-6) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (8-6)
The Philadelphia Eagles are 3 point favorites over the Chicago Bears (8-6) on Sunday Night Football.
Starts: 12/22/2013 8:30PM
Lincoln Financial Field, One Lincoln Financial Field Way
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Eagles defense been way better than advertised alongside Foles’ brilliance. They’ve allowed an average of just 23.0 points against, even though they tend to give up an alarming amount of yardage. And Chicago might be the most offensively prepared team they’ve faced in a while. Well, depending on how you feel about Jay Cutler.

The Bears have been one of the worst bets in the league, going just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games. Chicago is also just 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games against NFC opponents, and are a worrisome 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games against teams with a winning record. Jay Cutler and Josh McCown have rotated at the starting quarterback position, even though the former seems to be getting the nod this weekend once again. Cutler threw for just 265 yards against Cleveland along with 3 touchdowns and 2 picks. He’s just over one month removed from a rough injury, and his grip over the starting gig isn’t as vice-like as it should be considering his tenure in the NFL.

Chicago has enough offensive firepower and big play ability to shore up for Cutler’s mistakes in general but the larger problem lingering over the Sunday Night Football betting line is their defense. The Bears have surrendered 28.8 points against, and have given up yards to almost every type of back in their last five contests. If Cutler isn’t on point – which is a high probability considering his track record – the defense will be hard pressed to keep Foles and McCoy at bay.

It’s not the most encouraging betting advice, but you really have to chalk up Philadelphia’s crushing loss last weekend to simple, bad luck. They played a bad game, tried to make up for it, and still lost. This type of stuff happens. What was encouraging is that game is that Foles threw for a season-best 428 yards. He’ll have his way with a Chicago defense that has more name value than actual value.

In other words, don’t underestimate these Eagles, but feel free to totally underestimate these underwhelming Chicago Bears. They’re 4-9-1 ATS for a reason and it’s because they hardly every live up to expectations. It won’t be any different for the Bears backers if they choose to throw their money in the wrong direction.
