Bet The Tampa Bay Buccaneers +3 Because…

Tampa Bay (6-10 SU, 7-9 ATS) went 2-2 in the preseason and is looking to build on their respectable six-win season in 2016. Unfortunately, the Buccaneers have a new head coach in former offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter that will be learning on the job while trying to improve an offense that ranked 20th in scoring last season (21.4 ppg).

Second-year quarterback Jameis Winston will throw early and often to elite wide receivers, Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson while handing off to running back Doug Martin who had a nice comeback season in 2015.

Defensively the Buccaneers finished a discouraging 26th in points allowed (26.1 ppg), but have a flat-out star in Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and drafted athletic cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III with the 11th overall pick in the draft.

Bet The Atlanta Falcons at -3 Because…

Atlanta (8-8 SU, 6-10 ATS) fell apart in Dan Quinn’s first season a year ago after getting off to a perfect 5-0 start in 2015, but went 3-1 this preseason, so there is hope.

The Falcons ranked 21st in scoring (21.2 ppg) and will be led by veteran quarterback Matt Ryan, elite wide receiver Julio Jones and fellow wideout Mohamed Sanu. Young running back Devonta Freeman emerged as a star last season and Ryan has a sure-handed tight end in Jacob Tamme.

Defensively, the Falcons ranked a solid 14th in points allowed (21.6 ppg) and will rely on a quartet of stars in order to stop the opposition in 2016 in linebackers Sean Weatherspoon and Paul Worrilow and defensive backs Dashon Goldson and Desmond Trufant.

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction

Despite giving up just 23 points in both regular season meetings in 2015, the Falcons lost both games against the Buccaneers last season – which is why I love them to get the big win at home in this matchup.

I know Atlanta is just 2-10 ATS in their last dozen games, an equally abysmal 1-5 ATS in their last six home games and an awful 1-8 against the spread against the NFC.

Conversely, Tampa Bay went 0-4 ATS over their last four games a year ago while going 2-7 ATS in their last nine games in the month of September.

The favorite in this NFC South rivalry has covered the spread in five of the last six meetings, making the Falcons the easy pick to win and narrowly cash in!

My Pick: Atlanta 28 Tampa Bay 24
