Analyzing The Latest Super Bowl 50 Spread
The spread hasn’t changed at all since Monday. The overall trend is Carolina. In many sports books, the Panthers opened as a -4 point favorite. Carolina was bet all the way up to a -6 point favorite before the line changed over the past weekend to Carolina -5.5. The public definitely favors Carolina as close to 60% appear ready to lay down the 5.5 points. Denver fans are getting +2.5 points above the 3 point threshold meaning that if this game were in Carolina, the Panthers would be up to a -8.5 point favorite. 5.5 on a neutral field that exists on your opponent’s side of the country in the Super Bowl is a lot of points to give up. The betting clearly says Panthers.
Analyzing The Latest Super Bowl 50 Money Line
If you’re a believer in the Panthers, you have to love -230. Carolina is actually offering overlay odds at -230 if you truly believe that they are 6 points better than the Denver Broncos. Remember, if Super Bowl 50 were a Panthers home game, or even on the other side of the country in a place like Tampa or New Orleans, Carolina would be at least a touchdown favorite.
But, if you’re already siding with Denver, you have to love the +190. The Broncos played the much tougher schedule, have the more experienced QB and coaching staff, and the better defense. +190 on a team like Denver, who played much of the season with a back-up QB and still won home field in the deeper conference, absolutely constitutes value. Either way you look at it, the money line is a good bet.
Analyzing The Latest Super Bowl 50 Over-Under
Surprisingly, the total has gone down a full point since this past Monday. The total now sits at 44 points. The total opened at 45.5 before going down to 45 shortly after the opening. The total remained at 45 up until this week where it has dived a full point to 44. The total could continue to see downward pressure. More and more handicappers are coming to the realization that Denver’s defense shut down two high profile quarterbacks, Ben Roethlisberger in the Divisional Round, and Tom Brady in the AFC Championship. Plus, nobody can argue that this is the best defense, with the most moving parts, capable of keeping Cam Newton’s effectiveness under control. Don’t be surprised if the total drops another half a point to 43.5 before kick-off.
