Thursday Night Football Predictions

The Giants performed just as I expected in Week 3 to beat Houston 30-17 and cash in as a 1-point home favorite as veteran quarterback Eli Manning finally avoided turning the ball over for the first time this season while completing 21 of 28 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns.

New York got an unexpected, but stellar performance from veteran Rashad Jennings as the third-year running back carried the ball 34 times for 176 yards and one touchdown.

The G-Men forced Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick into three interceptions while sacking the veteran on two other occasions bur are ranked just 25th in points allowed (25.7 ppg) and an identical 25th in scoring (19.3 ppg).

Washington may have lost to Philadelphia 37-34 in a Week 3 thriller, but the fact of the matter is that Washington looked extremely crisp on offense for the second straight games under backup quarterback Kirk Cousins.

For is part, Cousins says he’s not changing his daily routine even though his role has changed drastically.

“It’s important in order to have success in my situation to not treat things different and try to be as consistent week to week as possible,” said Cousins. “If suddenly my preparation changes a lot or if I do something different, that is an indication that I probably wasn’t very prepared for the previous games.”

“The longer I’m out there on the field,” Cousins said, “the better I’m going to get.”

Washington scored at least 37 points for the second straight game under Cousins as their former backup completed 30 of 48 passes for 427 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Veteran receivers, Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson caught 11 and five passes respectively for 138 and 117 yards with one touchdown apiece.

Washington is ranked second in total yards, third in passing and fifth in scoring (27.0 ppg) fourth in total yards allowed and 11th in points allowed (21.3 ppg).

Analysis: Even in defeat, I absolutely loved the way Washington – and quarterback Kirk Cousins – played against the Philadelphia Eagles in their narrow 37-34 road loss and I believe they’re going to score more than their fair share of points in this Week 4 NFC East divisional battle.

New York may have gotten its first win of the season last weekend, but they weren’t exactly facing a powerhouse kind of team and I think Washington’s underrated defense is going to force Eli Manning into at least one costly turnover.

While he’s not nearly as athletic as RG3, Cousins has proven himself to be a capable passer that is surprisingly poised under pressure.
