Updated Super Bowl 50 OddsJosh Bailey
Super Bowl 50 odds are out. As to be expected the teams that are favored to win the Super Bowl are the teams that are favored to win each NFL Conference Championship Game. New England is the favorite in the AFC while Carolina is the favorite in the NFC. Let’s take a deep dive into the odds for each team left with a chance to win the Super Bowl to see if we can find any value.
Updated Super Bowl 50 Odds
- New England +200 – At odds of +200, it may not look like New England offers any value, but the Patriots have something that no other team left has. The name of that something is Tom Brady. Brady might be the most competitive person on the planet. He also loves beating up on Peyton Manning. Terrific Tom leads the head to head series 11 to 5. Also, when New England lost to Denver during the regular season, the Patriots were without WR Julian Edelman. Still, the Pats are at 2 to 1 and will have to face a tough NFC team while beating Denver in the AFC Championship game on the road.
- Carolina +200 – 2 to 1 odds on Carolina to win the Super Bowl definitely constitutes fair value. The Panthers have the best rushing attack of any team left in the NFL playoffs. Not only that, but their starting QB is better than most starting running backs at rushing the ball. He’s also turned into a very good passer. The Panthers also sport two defenders that are the best at their positions: ILB Luke Kuechly and CB Josh Norman. Oh, yeah, Carolina has lost only 1 game this season.
- Arizona +400 – Things are crazy in the future book, right? Just a few weeks ago Arizona was a +450 second choice to New England to win the Super Bowl. Arizona imploded in an embarrassing loss to Seattle in Week 17. In the Divisional Round, they needed overtime in order to beat Green Bay 26 to 20. The shine is off the December NFC Super Bowl 50 favorite. But, do the Cardinals offer fair value at +400? They don’t in my mind because they haven’t got a very good rushing attack and the secondary plays soft at times.
- Denver +400 – If Peyton can escape the Brady Trap in the AFC Championship Game, you have to like Denver to win the Super Bowl. The odds are terrific at +400. Denver has the best defense in the NFL. They have one of the Top 5 quarterbacks to ever play the game under center. If QB play and defense mean anything when it comes to winning the Super Bowl, Denver’s odds should be less than +400. That makes the Broncos a strong play at better than fair odds.
