NFL betting odds for Week 1 action are out! Can you believe it? It’s only April and we can already start planning for the first week of the NFL! Keep reading for the opening NFL week 1 spreads along with my ATS picks.
Thursday, September 8, 2016
Carolina Panthers 43.5
Denver Broncos -3
The Panthers didn’t go through as many changes as the Broncos did. I like Carolina to win this one on the moneyline, much less cover the spread.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 48
Atlanta Falcons -3.5
Atlanta should be more than a 4 point favorite over the Buccaneers in the first game of the season. I think the Falcons win by close to a touchdown.
Minnesota Vikings -3
Tennessee Titans 42.5
Tennessee will be improved. But, will they be improved enough to not lose by at least 3 points to Minnesota? I don’t think so.
Cleveland Browns 46
Philadelphia Eagles -7.5
Wow. Philadelphia is close to 8 points better than a Cleveland Browns team that has solid sideline management in new coach Hue Jackson. I think the Browns win this ATS.
Cincinnati Bengals PK
New York Jets 43.5
In a pick game between the Bengals and Jets, I have to go with the Jets. But only because Jets takes on the Bengals at home.
Oakland Raiders 51
New Orleans Saints -1.5
Oakland is going to be much improved. But the Saints have a chance to be much improved as well depending on how their draft goes. New Orleans wins and covers in the Super Dome.
San Diego Chargers 43.5
Kansas City Chiefs -7.5
KC to beat San Diego by more than 8 points is a lot. This is especially true since the Chargers could pick up an excellent player with the third pick in the NFL Draft later in April.
Buffalo Bills 43.5
Baltimore Ravens -3
This is one game where the home team should have it. Baltimore is too good of a team to not cover 3 points against the Bills, a squad without a true starting quarterback.
Chicago Bears 45.5
Houston Texans -4.5
I love Houston at -4.5 in Week 1 against the Bears. The Texans’ defense is still number one. The offense is way better with Lamar Miller at RB and Brock Osweiler at QB.
Green Bay Packers -3.5
Jacksonville Jaguars 48
I feel that the Jaguars make this game tough on the Packers. The Jags may not win it, but they should keep it to within a field goal.
Miami Dolphins 45.5
Seattle Seahawks -7.5
The Dolphins just don’t seem prepared at this point to battle the Seahawks in a close game. Then again, the Seahawks didn’t improve their offensive line and that was the problem last season. Miami keeps it closer than 8 points.
New York Giants 49.5
Dallas Cowboys -5.5
There is no way that Dallas should be favored by more than a field goal over the Giants. New York always plays Dallas tough at AT&T Stadium. I like the G-Men at that spread.
Detroit Lions 49.5
Indianapolis Colts -5.5
This game could go either way. I’m not sold on the Colts bouncing back from last season’s dreadful overall performance. I don’t think Detroit is going to be as bad as many believe. Plus, the Lions’ defense is better than the Colts’ defense. Detroit to cover.
New England Patriots PK
Arizona Cardinals 51
Arizona should be favored by at least 2 points in this one. The Cardinals could dominate the Patriots’ defense. I’m not sure the Patriots’ offense can dominate the Cardinals’ defense.

Pittsburgh Steelers -2.5
Washington Redskins 51
Pittsburgh is going to be much better than Washington this season. The Pitt defense gelled towards the end of last season. Washington’s defense just isn’t very good. Pitt easily covers the spread.
Los Angeles Rams -2.5
San Francisco 49ers 47
Even with a rookie QB, the Rams shouldn’t have trouble against San Francisco in Week 1. Chip Kelly’s offense may or may not have the right QB for it and the Niners’ defense is horrible. Rams all the way.
