Spread: Notre Dame -14.5
Wake Forest snapped a three-game skid by getting past Louisville 42-32 last weekend and now they’re looking to pull off an even bigger upset by taking out the Irish. The Demon Deacons got an incredible performance from quarterback John Wolford against the Cardinals as he completed 28-34 pass attempts for 461 yards and five touchdowns. Wake put up a whopping 625 yards of total offense in the win.
Notre Dame has won six straight and comes into this contest off a 35-14 blowout win over previously ranked North Carolina State last weekend. Quarterback Brandon Wimbush completed 10-19 for 104 yards and two touchdowns passes while running back Josh Adams rushed for a stellar 202 yards on 22 carries including a 77-yard touchdown run to help the Irish move into the national top five.
If you’re thinking the two-touchdown-plus spread is a bit too much for the Irish to cover, I’m going to advise you to not worry. I know the Demon Deacons have gone 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games and a stellar 8-3 ATS in their last 11 road games, but Notre Dame has covered the spread in each of their last six games while going 4-1 ATS in their last five home games.
More importantly, the Fighting Irish have an elite defense that has not allowed more than 14 points in beating North Carolina, USC and NC State over its last three games while not allowing more than 18 points over its last five games overall. Notre Dame’s only loss this season was a one-point defeat against an extremely good Georgia team in Week 4, but since then, they’ve shown no reason to think they’re not going to beat anyone – and beat them handily.
Brandon Wimbush has been the best thing to happen to Notre Dame football in quite some time and now I’m thinking the Irish are a near lock to reach the four-team CFP. Wake Forest, just like everyone else recently, is in big trouble against the Irish!
Pick: Notre Dame -14.5
