Opening Week NFL Super Bowl 51 Picks

NFL Week 14 Upset Picks

Two games for my picks for NFL Week 14’s best upsets are between NFC South opponents. New Orleans travels to Tampa Bay to battle the Buccaneers while Atlanta travels to Carolina to take on the 12 and 0 Panthers.

The other game where I think a moneyline upset might occur is in the New England at Houston matchup. Both teams go into that contest off of stinging losses. Keep reading to find out why I believe that Houston is going to have New England’s number.

A Closer Look At My NFL Week 14 Upset Picks

What: New Orleans Saints (4-8) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-6)
When: Sunday, December 13, 2015
Kickoff: 1:00 PM ET
Where: Tampa, FL
Stadium: Raymond James Stadium
Weather: 80° F | Increasing Cloudiness
Spread: Buccaneers -4
Moneyline: New Orleans +170 vs Tampa Bay -200
Game Total: 50.5

Listen: New Orleans vs Tampa Bay

Analysis: The Saints did lose their fourth game in a row in Week 13. Carolina pummeled New Orleans’ defense for 41 points in a 41 to 38 Panthers’ win. But, the Saints offense finally started to get things going.

New Orleans isn’t that far away from fielding a very good team. The Saints’ offense put up 38 points against Carolina’s third ranked defense. The Saints played with guts. That should carry over to their game versus Tampa Bay who came back from down 7 to 9 at halftime to beat Atlanta 23 to 19. The Tampa Bay defense allowed Atlanta QB Matt Ryan to throw for 269 yards and a TD. Drew Brees should be much more effective on Sunday in Week 14 than Ryan was in Week 13.

Pick: New Orleans

What: Atlanta Falcons (6-6) at Carolina Panthers (12-0)
When: Sunday, December 13, 2015
Kickoff: 1:00 PM ET
Where: Charlotte, NC
Stadium: Bank of America Stadium
Weather: 68° F | Cloudy
Spread: Panthers -7.5
Moneyline: Atlanta +287 vs Carolina -357
Game Total: 46
Watch: FOX
Stream: Fox Sports Go
Listen: Atlanta vs Carolina

Analysis: Atlanta has a good chance to beat Carolina straight up this Sunday. The reason is simple. First year Coach Dan Quinn needs a win. Quinn was hired to put the Falcons on the right track. He’s the one with all of the pressure. Expect Quinn to participate more with the offense this week.

Also, this might be the perfect time to play the Panthers. Carolina needed Cam Newton to come up with another late 4th quarter drive in order to beat the Saints. Eventually, things should start evening out with Carolina, who has gotten somewhat lucky via Cam’s heroics in more than one win this season.

Pick: Atlanta

What: New England Patriots (10-2) at Houston Texans (6-6)
When: Sunday, December 13, 2015
Kickoff: 8:30 PM ET
Where: Houston, TX
Stadium: NRG Stadium
Weather: N/A
Spread: Patriots -3.5
Moneyline: New England -180 vs Houston +160
Game Total: 45
Watch: NBC
Stream:  NBC Sports Live Extra
Listen: New England vs Houston

Analysis: The signs for New England’s meltdown actually occurred on Nov. 15. As a 7 point favorite, the Patriots could only beat the Giants by a point, 27 to 26. The Pats pushed in their next game, a 20 to 13 win over Buffalo. Then came the 24 to 30 loss to Denver. Week 13 saw the 28 to 35 loss to Philadelphia.

The problem with New England is that the offense is pretty much stagnant without WR Julian Edelman and TE Rob Gronkowski. Gronk might be out this week. But, even if Gronk is available, it could be difficult for the Patriots’ offensive line to keep Houston’s defensive line from pressuring Brady. Go with Houston.

Pick: Houston
