NFC Divisional Playoff Betting Trends - New Orleans Saints vs Seattle Seahawks

Week 17 NFL Betting Tips – St. Louis Rams at Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks had the NFC by the throat before choking against the supremely coached Arizona Cardinals last weekend, and with the top seed on the line, you’re going to need every Week 17 NFL betting tip I can scrounge up to get a handle on this game. The St. Louis Rams don’t really have a ton of motivation in this game, and are a bit of a disaster when travelling, but there’s still lots to like.

Seattle needs to win this game, or hope that San Francisco loses, to maintain their grasp on the top spot in the NFC. They own the tie breaker and a one-game lead on the Carolina Panthers, who are currently the second seed. A loss here by Seattle could drop them from first to fifth in the standings if they lose to St. Louis and the Niners win. That’s a big deal for Seattle, especially given their “home field advantage”.

Why did I put that in quotes? The most touted Week 17 NFL betting tip you’ll see for this game is the old adage that you don’t bet against Seattle at home. I think you can throw that out the window after they lost 10-17 against Arizona as -8.0 point favorites. I mean, Seattle is still 4-1 SU in their last 5 home games but they’re also 2-3 ATS during that run. The two covers were against New Orleans and Minnesota. Betting on Seattle at home is not as rock solid as other experts might have you believe.

The thing is that St. Louis is pretty lame on the road. They’re just 2-3 SU and ATS in their last 5 road trips and are a bit of a bad take when they’re not in the comfort of the Edward Jones Dome. St. Louis has posted a +6.0 point differential in their last 5 home games, and boast a +2.0 point differential in their last 5 away games. One of the Week 17 NFL betting tips I need to tell you is that the +2.0 differential on the road is a bit of a misnomer because it includes two blowout wins against Indy and Houston. In their last three travelling losses, the Rams have actually posted a brutal -15.0 point differential against Carolina, San Francisco and Arizona. This is not a team that usually travels well.

So all this being said, why would I not take Seattle in this game? I just don’t think Seattle plays well in meaningful games. Their rush defense has been very vulnerable, and while Russell Wilson is an absolute delight at quarterback, he doesn’t have a single deep threat worth speaking of. Golden Tate just hasn’t progressed to the point where he’s a reliable asset. The Rams have a very strong rushing defense, and a great rushing game of their own. Both of those qualities will allow them to grind out another close one against a Seattle team I think is as overhyped as they come. I do not trust Seattle as much as most people do, so you can take my Week 17 NFL betting tips with a grain of salt if you want to, but no matter what that point cushion is too tempting given what both teams bring to the table.
