Week 17 NFL Upset Picks

Week 17 NFL Upset Picks

My Week 17 NFL upset picks are all about motivated teams versus unmotivated teams. Okay, not all my upset picks are. This past week’s rash of injuries to big ticket players may have the teams who have nothing to play for considering sitting their star players. Let’s get started.

Week 17 NFL Upset Picks

Can Miami cover the spread versus New England as a huge close to +10 home underdog? How will motivated Chicago play against Minnesota, a team that appears to have thrown in the towel? Is Houston going to dominate Tennessee with Titans’ QB Marcus Mariota hurt?

New England at Miami
When:  Sunday, Jan. 1 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, FL
Odds: Miami +9.5

Analysis: New England has a lot to play for. The Patriots are fighting for home field advantage throughout the playoffs. But, I believe that the spread is just too high in this game. If Miami were to win, they’d have a shot playing at home in the NFL Wildcard Round next Sunday.

That’s a big if. Still, Miami hates losing to New England. What it means is that the Dolphins should put their best foot forward in this battle. I think that Miami gets it done by keeping this game desperately close.

Week 17 NFL Upset Pick: Miami

Chicago at Minnesota
When:  Sunday, Jan. 1 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN
Odds: Chicago +5.5

Analysis: Chicago heads to Minnesota to battle a team that suddenly forgot how to play football. The offensive line is a mess in Minny. So, it turns out, is the defense. What’s really disappointing about the Vikings is that the coaching staff has become terrible at adjusting. It’s hard to understand how that’s possible, but it’s happened.

Chicago QB Matt Barkley is happy to be under center. He just wants to be on the field. What’s awesome if you’re a Bears’ fan is how Barkley and WR Cameron Meredith have developed such a nice rapport. Chicago can allow Alshon Jeffery to walk this offseason.

Chicago has a chance to blow out the Vikings in this.

Week 17 NFL Upset Pick: Chicago

Houston at Tennessee
When:  Sunday, Jan. 1 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Nissan Stadium, Nashville, TN
Odds: Houston +3

Analysis: Houston faces one of the surprise teams in the NFL this season, the hard-rushing Tennessee Titans. Unfortunately for Titan fans, there’s no way that they get past losing QB Marcus Mariota.

Whomever wins this battle ends up winning the terrible AFC South Division. Houston had the edge with Tom Savage at QB and a defense that can play tough at times. This should be a good game but in the end Houston wins it straight up because without Mariota, Tennessee won’t be as good on offense as they normally are.

The Texans win their second straight AFC South Division title on Jan. 1.

Week 17 NFL Upset Pick: Houston
