NFL Week 3 Five ? Lock Picks
Can New England survive against Houston’s offense with 1 quarterback on the roster? Will Cincinnati bounce back after a loss in Week 2 against the defending Super Bowl champs? How will New Orleans do facing rival Atlanta in the Superdome? Check out my NFL Week 3 five ? picks!
Houston at New England
When: Thursday, Sept.22 at 8:25 pm ET
Where: Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, MA
Odds: Houston -2.5
Analysis: New England back-up QB Jimmy Garappolo went down with an injury in New England’s 31 to 24 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 2. Rumor has it that New England is going with one QB, rookie Jacoby Brissett, on Thursday. WR Julian Edelman will back-up Brissett against Houston.
Wow. That’s pretty scary. The betting line has been set at Houston -2.5. Expect the line to go up to Houston -4 or even Houston -4.5. The Texans’ defense was fantastic when holding Kansas City to 12 points in a 19 to 12 win on Sunday. They sacked QB Alex Smith 4 times.
Houston’s defense should help the Texans cover a spread up to 5 points.
NFL Week 3 Lock Pick: Houston ATS
Denver at Cincinnati
When: Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati
Odds: Cincinnati -3
Analysis: Cincinnati blew it against Pittsburgh in Week 3. The Bengals passed the football way too many times. Andy Dalton threw it 54 times. That’s a lot for a team that usually relies on the rushing attack in order to move the football. Dalton can’t throw the football 54 times against Denver. He’ll get killed if he tries that.
What Dalton can do is hand it off to Giovanni Bernard and Jeremy Hill. Both were ineffective rushing the football against Pittsburgh’s D. Pittsburgh plays a zone defense. Their linebackers read almost every rush that Cincinnati tried.
Denver plays man-to-man. That should allow Bernard and Hill to find some holes if the Bengals can block Denver’s defensive line. Another thing Dalton might find is that his favorite target, WR A.J. Green, is going to be more wide-open in a man coverage scheme than in a zone coverage scheme.
NFL Week 3 Lock Pick: Cincinnati -3
Atlanta at New Orleans
When: Monday, Sept. 26 at 8:30 pm ET
Where: Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans
Odds: New Orleans -3
Analysis: The New Orleans Saints could only get the ball into the end zone once versus the New York Giants. They ended up losing 13 to 16 in what turned out to be a field goal kickers game. Atlanta was terrific when beating Oakland 35 to 28.
The problem with Atlanta’s win over the Raiders is that the defense allowed Oakland to put up 299 passing yards and 155 rushing yards. I have to believe that New Orleans is going to go back to their high-scoring ways against Atlanta.
Another thing to notice is that New Orleans has won 8 out of the last 11 battles between these two. The Saints are hungry for a win. Their defense was great against the New York Giants. I think they get it done in Week 3.
