NFL Week 3 Upset Picks

Can Minnesota make it 2 upsets in a row? What about Oakland as a dog against Tennessee after the loss to Atlanta in Week 2?  Will San Diego prove that their rout of Jacksonville in Week 2 wasn’t a fluke against Indianapolis in Week 3?  Keep reading for my top NFL Week 3 upset picks!

Minnesota at Carolina
When:  Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC
TV: FOX
Odds: Minnesota +6.5

Analysis: I guess trading for Sam Bradford after Teddy Bridgewater’s injury was the right thing to do. Bradford was unreal against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night. He completed 22 of 31 passes for 286 yards. He threw 2 TD passes. WR Stefon Diggs was a revelation with 8 catches for 182 yards and a TD.

Yes, the Vikings will be without RB Adrian Peterson who looked to suffer a fairly devastating knee injury in the second half of the win over the Packers. It doesn’t bother me. I think that Minnesota is just a better team than Carolina is. The Vikings’ defense has played much better in 2 games than the Panthers’ defense has played.

NFL Week 3 Upset Pick: Minnesota +6.5

Oakland at Tennessee
When:  Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Nissan Stadium, Nashville, TN
TV: CBS
Odds: Tennessee +1

Analysis: Yeah, I know that I’m sort of cheating here. I mean, by the time the game goes off, Oakland will most likely be a slight road favorite over Tennessee. But as of now, while I’m writing this, Oakland is the underdog at -1.

Tennessee fought like mad to upset Detroit on the road in Week 2. But they’ve got a tough matchup against a Raiders’ squad that disappointed when losing to Atlanta. I have to think that Jack Del Rio is going to get into the defense’s face after Matt Ryan torched them for 396 passing yards and 3 touchdowns.

I am picking the home underdog.

NFL Week 3 Upset Pick: Tennessee

San Diego at Indianapolis
When:  Sunday, Sept. 25 at 4:25 pm ET
Where: Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN
TV: CBS
Odds: San Diego +2.5

Analysis: I really thought Jacksonville would expose San Diego’s defense. Man, I was wrong. San Diego’s D looked legit when holding the Jags to only 14 points. Now, San Diego gets to take on Indianapolis, who has no rushing attack, this Sunday as a close to 3-point dog.

The Chargers have no business losing this game. We’re talking about a team that should be 2 and 0 going into Week 3. They gave it up to the Chiefs in overtime in Week 1 after rushing out to a huge lead. Whatever changes Mike McCoy made on San Diego’s defense in Week 2, it worked.

Indy’s defense has no shot of stopping QB Phillip Rivers, RB Melvin Gordon, and WR Travis Benjamin on Sunday. The Chargers should win this game.

NFL Week 3 Upset Pick: San Diego
