NFL Week 4 Upset Picks
Will Cleveland pick up its first win of the season against Washington? How will Buffalo respond a week removed from dominating Arizona against mighty New England? Can Kansas City put the clamps on Pittsburgh’s high-powered offense in Week4?
Cleveland at Washington
When: Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: FedEx Field, Landover, MD
Odds: Cleveland +10
Analysis: Cleveland goes into Washington with an 0-3 record after losing 24 to 31 to Miami as a +10 road dog in Week 3. The Browns haven’t played bad football considering what has transpired in Cleveland the past few years. Eventually, the Browns are going to put together a game that they win.
I think that it happens this Sunday against Washington. Sure, Washington beat the New York Giants 29 to 27 in Week 3. But Washington’s defense is tailor-made for Cleveland’s offense. The Browns average 144.7 rushing yards per game. That ranks Cleveland fourth in the NFL in rushing yards per matchup.
Washington allows 123 rushing yards per game. Washington’s D allows a total of 424.7 yards per game on average. There is no way that Washington keeps Cleveland from moving the football and scoring on Sunday.
Pick: Cleveland straight up
Buffalo at New England
When: Sunday, Oct. 2 1:00 pm ET
Where: Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, MA
Odds: Buffalo +4
Analysis: Sometimes, the light bulb goes off for a team and that team starts playing well for the rest of the season. I have the feeling that the light bulb went off for the Buffalo Bills in their stunning 33 to 18 demolition of the favored Arizona Cardinals in Week 3.
Buffalo was fantastic in every phase of the game. Where they truly excelled was in the secondary where they picked off Carson Palmer 4 times. The test on whether or not the light bulb has gone off comes in Week 4 when the Bills battle the rival New England Patriots.
Both New England’s quarterbacks, Jacoby Brissett and Jimmy Garoppolo are day to day with injuries. That should give the Bills plenty of confidence that they can do to New England’s offense what they did to Buffalo’s.
I think that Buffalo has a big shot of winning this game straight up on Sunday.
Pick: Buffalo +4
Kansas City Chiefs at Pittsburgh Steelers
When: Sunday, Oct. 2 at 8:30 pm ET
Where: Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, PA
Odds: Kansas City +5
Analysis: The light bulb may have gone off for the Kansas City Chiefs as well. After looking like garbage in a 12 to 19 Week 2 loss to Houston, Andy Reid’s team came up with a great performance versus the New York Jets in Week 3.
Kansas City held the usually high-powered Jets offense to only 3 points. How did KC do it? The Chiefs picked off QB Ryan Fitzpatrick 6 times. That’s correct. Kansas City took Fitz to the cleaners with 6 thefts. It was incredible.
The Chiefs aren’t going to intercept Ben Roethlisberger 6 times in this game. What the Chiefs are going to do is look at film of how the Philadelphia Eagles were able to hold Big Ben to only 257 passing yards, no TD passes, and 1 pick. The Eagles beat Pitt 34 to 3.
Kansas City’s defense was terrific versus the Jets. It’s finally gelled. That could spell trouble for Pittsburgh covering a 5-point spread on Oct. 2.
Pick: Kansas City +5
