NFL Week 6 Five ? Lock Picks

Interesting matchups are on tap for Week 6 in the NFL. A couple of the teams are in desperation mode since losses no doubt will kick them out of the running for a playoff spot.

One of those teams, Seattle, hosts the undefeated Carolina Panthers this Sunday. Seattle held a 24 to 7 lead over the Cincinnati Bengals but they couldn’t shut the door on Cincy. The Bengals came back and won the game 27 to 24. Chicago upset Kansas City on the road. This week they travel to Detroit to take on the 0 for 5 Lions. New England travels to Indianapolis in a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship Game.

A Closer Look At My NFL Week 6 Five ? Lock Picks

Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions
When: Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1:00 pm ET
Odds: Detroit -2.5

The Bears have now won 2 games in a row. At 2 and 3, Chicago might be in line for a Wildcard berth if they can continue to win games. That’s a lot easier said than done. All of the air went out of the Chiefs after star running back Jamal Charles suffered a devastating knee injury. It was tough for KC to stay focused throughout the game.

Detroit has no choice but to be focused on Sunday. The Lions are searching for their first win of the season after making it to the playoffs last season. What Detroit needs to do is run the football against a Chicago defense that’s allowing an average of 118.8 yards per game on the ground.

Detroit’s defense should be able to contain Chicago’s putrid offense. If the Lions can control the flow of the game, they should garner their first victory of the season against the lowly Bears.

Pick: Detroit -2.5

Carolina Panthers at Seattle Seahawks
When: Sunday, Oct. 18 at 4:05 pm ET
Odds: Seattle -7

Carolina goes into this matchup off of a bye. That should give the Panthers an edge in what is likely to be a low-scoring game.

Both defenses are playing well. The biggest issue that Seattle has, the reason the Seahawks only have 2 wins on the season, is Seattle’s inability to protect QB Russell Wilson. Wilson is running for his life way too often in games.

Carolina’s terrific defense is ranked sixth against the rush. Teams run for only 92 yards per game against the Panthers. The Panthers allow only 247 passing yards per game on average. Due to Seattle’s protection issues, Carolina could really keep the Seahawks offense down in this matchup. Take the points.

Pick: Carolina +7

New England Patriots at Indianapolis Colts
When:  Sunday, Oct. 17 at 8:30 pm ET
Odds: New England -7.5

The Colts have won three games in a row. Before crowning them as the AFC representative in the Super Bowl, though, take a look at who they’ve beaten. Indianapolis beat Tennessee 35 to 33. They beat Jacksonville 16 to 13 and they beat Houston 27 to 20.

They face New England this Sunday. The Patriots are averaging 423.8 yards and 37.2 points per game. Out of the 423.8 yards per game Tom Brady passes for 331.2 of the yards. New England is the top passing team in the National Football League.

That’s bad news for the Colts. Indianapolis’ defense allows 286.8 yards per game through the air. The Colts’ secondary has no shot at stopping Brady, WR Julian Edelman and TE Rob Gronkowski. New England will blow out another foe this Sunday.

Pick: New England -7.5
