Week 8 NFL Upset Picks
Can Jacksonville control Tennessee’s soon to be superstar QB Marcus Mariota on Thursday, Oct. 27? How will Washington fair as a dog when they face Cincinnati in London this Sunday morning? Are the Saints playing well enough to put a scare into the mighty Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 30? Keep reading for my Week 8 NFL Upset Picks!
Jacksonville at Tennessee
When: Thursday, Oct. 27 at 8:25 pm ET
Where: Nissan Stadium, Nashville, TN
TV: CBS/NFL Net
Odds: Jacksonville +3.5
Analysis: Tennessee’s Marcus Mariota has become one of the better signal callers in the NFL. In Tennessee’s last 3 games, Mariota has an 8 to 1 TD to interception ratio. He’s starting to resemble the quarterback that destroyed defenses in college.
Jacksonville is supposed to be better than their 2 and 4 record. The Jags have a ton of skill players on offense. The defense is loaded with decent players on every level. What’s wrong with Jacksonville? A lot of their issues stem from the coaching staff. That’s my take on it.
Getting over 3 points on the road versus Tennessee, though, makes the Jags a solid upset play. QB Blake Bortles should have some luck against the Titans’ defense.
Week 8 NFL Upset Pick: Jacksonville
Washington vs Cincinnati
When: Sunday, Oct. 30 at 9:30 am ET
Where: Wembley Stadium, London, England
Odds: Washington +2.5
Analysis: Cincinnati has looked impressive in its 3 wins this season. But before jumping on the Bengals to cover a close to 3-point spread in Week 8 in London against Washington, football handicappers must put things in perspective. Cincinnati has beaten the NY Jets, the Cleveland Browns and the Miami Dolphins this season.
Washington presents a whole other set of issues for the Bengals. Cincy’s defense allows 118.4 rushing yards per game. Coach Jay Gruden at Washington is perfectly capable of setting up a strategy to take advantage of that statistic.
Almost as important is the fact that Washington’s defense is playing its best football so far this season. I like Washington to win this game straight up.
Week 8 NFL Upset Pick: Washington
Seattle at New Orleans
When: Sunday, Oct. 30 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, LA
Odds: New Orleans +3
Analysis: Seattle’s offensive line is an absolute mess. The Arizona Cardinals’ defense dominated Seattle’s O-Line in the 6 to 6 snore of an NFL Sunday Night Football Game in Week 7. Now, the Seahawks must travel to the Big Easy to battle the Saints, who made too many mistakes to beat Kansas City in their last game.
New Orleans is ranked second in the NFL in total yards per game at 421.7. The Saints have always had luck moving the ball against Seattle’s defense. They should be able to move the ball this Sunday against Seattle’s D.
Plus, Seattle’s offensive line is so bad that he Saints’ defense might look like it’s supposed to be in the NFL in Week 8. I like New Orleans to win straight up.
