There are 2 full weeks from the time that I am writing this to when Super Bowl 50 takes place. That’s a full 14 days for football handicappers to go over every single ridiculous angle. That’s a full 14 days for Super Bowl party planners to get it right this time (I’ve got an idea, don’t invite the guy that threw up in the dip before halftime last season). But for football handicappers looking to score on the biggest betting event of the year, it makes sense to make your wagers as soon as possible.

- Suckers sway the spread – A sucker is born every minute and they love to jump on the popular bet. Think about every NFL game this season. It doesn’t even have to be a big game. Fans always f*ck it up. Why? Because Mr. Football Fan, not the football gambler but the fan, the guy with his house decked out in Denver orange or Carolina baby blue, is going to f*ck up the line. The fans really screw up the line for football bettors when it comes to the Super Bowl because every fan wants to bet the Super Bowl not just the fans that have driven to Vegas for the weekend.
- It’s unlikely that someone gets hurt from now until the Super Bowl – Most of the time we’ll wait to bet a game in order to see who gets hurt or who won’t play. That’s not the case with the Super Bowl. With the Super Bowl teams have two weeks to get healthy. What it means for Carolina is that both Roman Harper and Thomas Davis will most likely play. For Denver, safeties Darian Stewart and T.J. Ward will play. Again, if the odds are fair, jump on them.
- If you bet the Super Bowl now, you can use your handicapping time for prop wagers – Starting tomorrow and up until kick-off, the Super Bowl is going to set a number of prop wagers that’s going to take quite a bit of handicapping time. Most of us don’t have the time to handicap the prop wagers that we want to bet, much less all of the prop wagers. Handicap all of the prop wagers if you can. Why? If you don’t, you might miss a good opportunity. Think of the Super Bowl like a day at the racetrack. You want to take advantage of the exactas, trifectas, superfectas, Pick 4s and Pick 3s, not just the win bet.
- Your first choice is usually the right choice – How many times has this happened to you when it comes to the Super Bowl? Two weeks is an awful lot of time to go over every single angle? This happens to guys that bet the Kentucky Derby all of the time. They pick the winner about a month out. Instead of putting a future bet on that horse, they talk themselves off of the horse and end up betting a different horse the day of the race. There’s going to be a lot of noise leading up to the Super Bowl. Almost all of that noise is going to be nonsense. Don’t listen to the noise. If you like the odds, bet Super Bowl 50 now.
