NHL Best Bets Valentine’s Day WeekJosh Bailey
A great week of NHL action for me starts this Thursday when the Los Angeles Kings take on the New York Islanders. That’s my first professional hockey best bet of the upcoming week. Los Angeles leads the Pacific Division while the Islanders have fallen to fifth place in the Metropolitan Division. Other games that I think have nice opportunities are Nashville at Tampa Bay on Friday, Anaheim at Chicago on Saturday and Philadelphia at the Rangers on Sunday.
NHL Best Bets Valentine’s Day Week
Los Angeles at New York Islanders
When: Thursday, Feb. 11 at 7:00 pm ET
The Los Angeles Kings are a great team to back when they hit the road. To start the week, the Kings are an awesome 16-7-1-1 on the road this season. L.A. has gone 2 and 2 straight up in their last 4. Both wins were on the road while both losses were at home. The last time that the Kings played the Islanders, they beat them 2 to 1. That game was last November. Although New York can jump up once in a while and beat the better teams in NHL, it’s not likely that they take down the Kings this Thursday. I’m backing L.A.
Pick: Los Angeles
Nashville at Tampa Bay
When: Friday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 pm ET
While the Kings are a great road team, Nashville is a great home team. The Predators are 14-9-2-1 at home to start the week. On the road, the Predators are 11-11-5-0 to start the week. Nashville did beat Tampa Bay 5 to 4 in a shootout. That game took place this past October. Tampa Bay goes into this week hot having won 9 out of their last 10. They are a great 17-8-0-2 at home this season. Tampa should make quick work of Nashville in this matchup. I’m going to consider a puck line wager on game day.
Pick: Tampa Bay
Anaheim at Chicago
When: Saturday, Feb. 13 at 8:30 pm ET
This could be the upset of the week. The last time that Anaheim faced off against Chicago, the Ducks lost 2 to 3 in overtime. That game took place way back on November 27, 2015. Anaheim has almost been as hot as Tampa Bay. The Ducks have won 6 straight and 8 out of their last 10. Anaheim still struggles on offense. The Ducks are ranked 30th in the NHL in goals per match at 2.2. But, the defense is one of the best in the league. The defense is what should excite underdog bettors. I’m backing Anaheim at what should be great odds.
Philadelphia at NY Rangers
When: Sunday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 pm ET
Here’s another match where the underdog looks to have a huge shot. Philadelphia just played the Rangers on Feb. 6. In that match, the Flyers lost 2 to 3 in a shootout. Philadelphia could put up another great fight on Feb. 15. The Flyers have been great on the road. They beat Washington 4 to 3 in overtime on the road on Jan. 27. On Feb. 4, they dominated terrific home team Nashville 6 to 3 on the road. They barely lost to Washington 2 to 3 on the road on Feb. 7. Philly could turn the tables on the Rangers on Valentine’s Day. That’s the way that I’m playing it.
