A Closer Look At My NHL Expert Picks March 28-April 6
Washington at Philadelphia
When: Wednesday, March 30 at 8:00 pm ET
The Capitals have slowed down some. Washington is still the runaway winner of the Metropolitan Division. But the Caps have gone 6 and 4 straight up in their last 10 games. That’s very un-Washington like for this season. The last time that the Caps faced the Flyers they beat them 3 to 2.
Things could be different on Wednesday. The Flyers are a solid 19-10-3-4 at home this season. Not only that, but Philly beat Washington in overtime in the second to last time that these 2 squads faced each other. Philadelphia always plays the Caps tough. I think they come through with a win on Wednesday.
Expert Pick: Philadelphia
Boston at Chicago
When: Sunday, April 3 at 12:30 pm ET
The Boston Bruins start the week after going 1 and 4 straight up in their last 5 games. Perhaps, Boston could turn around their bad luck this week. The last time that Boston played against Chicago, they beat the Blackhawks 4 to 2. That game was on March 3.
Chicago is an excellent 24-11-2-1 at home this season. Boston is an even better, because it’s a road record, 24-11-2-1 away. Which team do I like in this matchup? I’m going with Boston simply because they’re going to get odds. The trend says that Boston should have a shot versus the Blackhawks on the road on Sunday. Based on the expected odds, I have to take that shot.
Expert Pick: Boston
St. Louis at Colorado
When: Sunday, April 3 at 8:00 pm ET
The St. Louis Blues have really turned it on in the past week. The Blues enter this week off of a fantastic 4 game win streak. What’s amazing is that in those 4 games, the Blues have outscored their opponents a combined 12 to 0. This includes beating Washington 4 to 0 on March 26.
St. Louis battles Colorado on Tuesday, March 29, before this April 3 game on Sunday. St. Louis has almost identical home and road records. The Blues are 23-11-3-1 at home. They’re 23-11-2-3 on the road. Colorado takes on Nashville and St. Louis on the road before battling Washington at home this week.
Those games occur before this one, meaning that the Avalanche should be plenty tired for the hot St. Louis Blues to take apart on Sunday. I think that St. Louis beats the Avalanche by at least 2 goals.
Expert Pick: St. Louis
