NHL Expert Picks Oct 23-29Noah Williams
Sidney Crosby and the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins will be in action against 2016-17 scoring leader Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers as Week 3 of the NHL regular season gets underway.
Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals hit the road to take on the Vancouver Canucks while the Chicago Blackhawks look to extract some revenge against the Nashville Predators for last season’s playoff ouster.
Let’s find out what’s going to go down in all three affairs as I offer up my trio of NHL picks of the week.
NHL Expert Picks Oct 23-29
Edmonton Oilers (2-5) at Pittsburgh Penguins (5-3-1)
When: Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 7:00 PM ET
Where: PPG PAINTS Arena, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
TV: SN1, TVAS, ATTSN-PT
Analysis: Sidney Crosby and the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins are the easy pick to take down Connor McDavid and an Edmonton Oilers team that has gotten out of the gate slowly this season despite having some lofty expectations. All you really need to know about this intriguing possible Stanley Cup Finals pairing is that Pittsburgh is averaging a stellar 4.0 goals per game and giving up 2.6 per contest while Edmonton is putting just 1.6 goals per game on the board and allowing 2.0.
Pick: Pittsburgh 4 Edmonton 2
Washington Capitals (4-4-1) at Vancouver Canucks (4-3-1)
When: Thursday, October 26 at 10:00 PM ET
Where: Rogers Arena, Vancouver, Canada
TV: SNP, NBCSWA
Analysis: Washington has come back to earth a bit after their fast start and are now-3 in the goal-scoring department. Vancouver is dead even in goals scored and allowed at 23 apiece. Despite being on the road in this Inter-conference clash, I like Washington and their trio of top 10 scorers in Nicklas Backstrom, Evgeny Kuznetsov and of course, Alex Ovechkin to take down a Vancouver team whose goal-scoring leader, Derek Dorsett has tallied half of the 10 that Ovechkin has out on the board so far this season.
Pick: Washington 4 Vancouver 3
Nashville Predators (4-3-1) at Chicago Blackhawks (5-2-2)
When: Friday, October 27 at 8:30 PM ET
Where: United Center, Chicago, Ill
TV: TVAS, NBCSCH, FS-TN
Analysis: The Chicago Blackhawks are off to a nice start as they rank seventh in scoring (3.6 gpg) and an even more impressive fifth in goals allowed (2.4). However, instead of the Blackhawks being the pick to narrowly get past a Nashville team that is averaging and allowing an identical 2.6 goals per night, I’m going with the Predators to continue their dominance over Chicago after sweeping their Western Conference rivals out of last season’s playoffs in the first round. Filip Forsberg and P.K. Subban lead the way for Nashville’s narrow road win upset while the Predators’ Pekka Rinne outplays Chicago counterpart Corey Crawford in this one.
Pick: Nashville 3 Chicago 2
