NHL Free Picks March 13-19

We’re skating closer and closer to the NHL playoffs! The first match I like this week is on Wednesday. Will Philadelphia beat Pittsburgh on their home ice this Wednesday, March 15? On Saturday, Anaheim battles San Jose. Who wins when the Mighty Ducks take the PCH up to San Jose to take on the Sharks? The last game I like takes place on Sunday when Chicago hosts Colorado. Will the Blackhawks beat the hard on their luck Avalanche on March 19?

NHL Free Picks March 13th-19th, 2017

Pittsburgh at Philadelphia
When:  Wednesday, March 15 at 7:30 pm ET
Where: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PA

Analysis: The Pittsburgh Penguins have won 5 in a row to start the week. They battle Calgary on the road March 13 before traveling to Philly to take on the Flyers.  Is this the time of the season when Pitt asserts itself? I think so. Pittsburgh is 43-16-6-2 as of March 12. Washington is 44-16-2-5.

The last time the Pens played the Flyers they dominated. Pittsburgh rocked Philadelphia with 4 goals while only yielding 2 goals on their end. The game was on Feb. 25. That wasn’t too long ago. Since the Pens are hot, I’m backing them to beat Philadelphia again.

Pick: Pittsburgh

Anaheim at San Jose
When:  Saturday, March 18 at 10:30 pm ET
Where: SAP Center, San Jose, CA

Analysis: There was a lot of talk during the pre-season that San Jose is too old to make it back to back trips to the Stanley Cup. Maybe, the Sharks are too old. Maybe, once they get to the playoffs, they’ll implode. But, right now, as of March 12, San Jose is one of the best teams in the Western Conference.

Like the Pens, the Sharks have been hot. San Jose has gone 5 and 2 straight up in their last 7 games. But, this is a tough match up for San Jose. The last time the Sharks battled the Ducks, they needed overtime to win 3 to 2.

Anaheim is in third place in the Pacific while San Jose leads the division. I’m taking a shot on Anaheim to win as a slight dog.

Pick: Anaheim

Colorado at Chicago
When:  Sunday, March 19 at 7:00 pm ET
Where: United Center, Chicago, IL

Analysis: Colorado travels to Chicago take on the Blackhawks in a game where the Avalanche figure to be big underdogs. The Avalanche don’t have much of a chance versus Chicago.

Chicago has gone 2 and 1 this season versus the Avalanche. They beat Colorado 4 to 0 the first time they played them. The Blackhawks lost 1 to 2 in overtime in the second match versus Colorado. In the third match versus the Avalanche, the Blackhawks won 6 to 4.

I think Chicago is the play on the puck line.

Pick: Chicago
