NHL Free Picks March 7th-14thJosh Bailey
There is about a month left in the NHL regular season and the playoffs for the Stanley Cup begin and it means time is running out on cashing in on my free NHL betting picks for the week. The games that I like start with Chicago taking on St. Louis on Wednesday, March 9. There are 2 terrific games on Sunday that make my NHL Best Bets of the Week list. Pittsburgh battles the NY Rangers on NBC before Toronto takes on Detroit on the NBC Sports Network. See below for which NHL teams I’m picking to bet on this week.
A Closer Look At My NHL Free Picks For March 7th-14th
Chicago at St. Louis
When: Wednesday, March 9 at 8:00 pm ET
Chicago goes into the week having won 3 out of their last 4. When they faced St. Louis on Jan. 24, the last time that the Blackhawks took on the Blues, Blackhawk goalie Corey Crawford made 25 saves to blanket the Blues offense. Chicago won 2 to 0.
Brian Elliot, the man in goal for the Blues in that game, is out until late March with a lower back injury. Jake Allen has done his best filling in for Elliot. Allen’s GAA (Goals Against Average) is 2.26. He gave up 4 goals to Nashville in a 0 to 5 St. Louis loss on Feb. 28. Chicago should take apart Allen at least 3 times in this match. I’m backing the Blackhawks.
Pittsburgh at New York Rangers
When: Sunday, March 13 at 12:30 pm ET
Pittsburgh just played the Rangers on March 3. In that match, the Penguins scored 3 goals against Henrik Lundqvist from 22 shots. Pitt goalie Marc Andre-Fluery made 27 saves from 28 shots. Pitt won 4 to 1.
It was a great game for the Penguins who aren’t that far behind the Rangers. Everybody in the Atlantic Division is chasing Washington, but after the Capitals, the Penguins, Islanders, and Rangers are all a few games apart. I’d usually jump all over a team like Pittsburgh in this match because I know that they’ll be the underdog.
Why change my philosophy now? Center Kevin Porter for Pittsburgh is out for the season while center Eric Fehr is out indefinitely. No matter. Both Sidney Crosby and Evegeni Malkin are healthy and ready to go. I like Pitt to upset the Rangers on the money line.
Toronto at Detroit
When: Sunday, March 13 at 7:30 pm ET
Detroit hasn’t faced Toronto since beating the Maple Leafs 2 to 1 in overtime on Nov. 6, 2015. As usual, Petr Mrazek was impressive in goal for the Red Wings. His save percentage ended up at 97% after he made 32 saves from 33 shots. Detroit has a decent 16-11-3-3 record at home this season.
Toronto’s record on the road is 12-20-0-2. Since winning 2 games in a row on Feb. 2 and Feb. 4, Toronto has gone 2 and 12 straight up. The Leafs have lost 5 games in a row. I’m going with Detroit on the puck line.
