NHL Free Picks Oct 24-30
NY Islanders at Pittsburgh
When: Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 pm ET
Where: PPG Paints Arena, Pittsburgh, PA
Analysis: As of Oct. 23, the NY Islanders have won 3 out of their last 4 matches. NYI is a solid 3 and 3 on the season after 6 games. But NYI is 0-2 in their only 2 road games of the season as of this past Sunday.
Will the Islanders have better luck on the road on Thursday against Pittsburgh? I think so. Pittsburgh has had all sorts of issues with Sidney Crosby out due to the concussion. Even though the Penguins are 3-2-1 overall, they’ve lost 3 out of their last 4 matches.
The Pens could have a tough time against a strong, tough, hungry squad like the Islanders on Oct. 27. I’ll back NYI to get the job done against Pittsburgh.
Pick: NY Islanders
Nashville at Los Angeles
When: Thursday, Oct. 27 at 10:30 pm ET
Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA
Analysis: Nashville travels to the Staples Center in Los Angeles to battle the Kings on Thursday, Oct. 27. Nashville is 2 and 3 as of Oct. 23. Los Angeles has a 2 and 3 record as well.
The Kings have an advantage in this match in the sense that they are at home. But there are no other advantages for L.A. against the Predators on Oct. 27. The Kings’ defense isn’t as good as it has been in years past. L.A. is only allowing 26.4 shots on goal per match.
Unfortunately, the Kings allow 3.6 goals per match.
Not only that but L.A. also only kills penalties 73.7% of the time. That’s not very good. Since Nashville is ranked first in NHL in power play percentage at 47.4%, they’re the pick in this match.
Chicago at New Jersey
When: Friday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 pm ET
Where: Prudential Center, Newark, NJ
Analysis: The Chicago Blackhawks started out the season by losing 2 in a row. Since that time, Chicago has played like the favorites that they are. As of Oct. 23, Chicago has gone 3-1 straight up in their last 4 matches. Chicago even beat Toronto 5 to 4 in a shootout win on Oct. 22.
The New Jersey Devils are 2-2-1. The Devils haven’t won on the road yet. Luckily for them, they take on the Blackhawks at home on Friday, Oct. 28. Still, it’s hard to see how Chicago blows this game. The Blackhawks get 4 days of rest from their match against Calgary on Oct. 24 to their match against New Jersey on Oct. 28.
The rest should make Chicago dangerous in this one. I like Chicago to beat New Jersey on Friday.
