A pair of awesome nationally televised matchups comes to your face with the NHL on NBC betting this Sunday and I’ve got breakdowns of each game right here in my free picks.
The Penguins and Flyers are engaging in a sweet home-and-home series over the weekend in an epic battle for the state of Pennsylvania. And both teams have split the two games they’ve played against each other already. Philadelphia won the last one 2-1 while Pittsburgh dominated in their first meeting 4-1. So who has the advantage heading in to this Sunday’s NHL on NBC betting bonanza?
My pick is the Penguins simply because they’re entering this back-to-back matchup with Philadelphia with much more momentum. After all they just defeated the hard charging Anaheim Ducks and won another back-to-back series with Washington (yes I just used “back-to-back” in back-to-back sentences). And Pittsburgh’s usual two-way domination continues this season as they’ve outscored opponents 8-4 in their last three games. It’s excessively difficult to leverage against Pittsburgh in any of my NHL expert betting picks, not just because of Sidney Crosby, but because of how successfully they play defense.
That doesn’t mean I don’t like Philadelphia as a team, but they’re streaky. Right now they’re 7-3 SU in their last 10 games, but are also riding a two game losing streak which includes losses to New Jersey and an overtime defeat at the hands of the Leafs. This is a good team that relies all too much on momentum. When things are bad, they get really bad. The Flyers are now 3-3 SU in their last 6 games, went 5-1 SU before that and had a four game losing streak prior to that. This is not the time to be backing them no matter how much you enjoy their rough and tumble style of play.
It’s kind of hard to believe that Chicago isn’t winning their own division, but it’s not very difficult to see them winning this game. Detroit has been caught in a landslide of losses recently, going just 1-4 SU in their last 5 games. They’re also just 2-4 SU in their last 6 games on the road. Their chances of earning one of those wild card spots in the east is fading fast.
Chicago’s rough road trip ended poorly with losses against the Kings, Coyotes and Rangers but they returned home to pick up a dominant win over Pittsburgh and Columbus while losing to Colorado in between. Overall, the Blackhawks have lost five games in regulation this entire season when playing at home. Were you really expecting me to hedge against them in my NHL on NBC expert betting picks against a slumping Red Wings team? Get real.
