Odds & Picks To Win The Stanley Cup

The Stanley Cup Betting Favorite: Toronto Maple Leafs +875

The Maple Leafs haven’t won the Stanley Cup since 1967. Don’t worry about doing the math. It’s over 50 years. How can a team that hasn’t won the Stanley Cup in over 50 years show up as the favorite to take Lord Stanley’s hardware in 2019?

Easy. The Leafs signed Jonathan Tavares, one of the top centers in NHL during the offseason. Tavares joins a unit that includes Auston Matthews, Nazem Kadri, Mitchell Marner, and Morgan Rielly.

The Leafs should average the most goals per match in NHL this season. That doesn’t mean they’re a lock to win the Stanley Cup at the odds, though.

There’s a real question if Toronto’s defense is good enough.

The Smart Stanley Cup Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning +900

Because the Leafs won the Tavares sweepstakes, bettors jumped on them while odds on the Lightning drifted up to +900. The Lightning dominated the regular season. There’s no reason to believe they don’t dominate the regular season again.

This time, I don’t expect a failure in Eastern Conference Game 7. Tampa’s loaded on the frontline with Steve Stamkos and Victor Hedman might be the best defender in hockey. One thing to love about the Lightning is that goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy played like a Vezina Trophy winner for most of last season.

If you’re a Lightning fan, you’ve got to love how Vasilevskiy played because last season was his first as a full-time starter. He should only get better from the experience.

The Stanley Cup Longshot Pick: L.A. Kings +2800

The L.A. Kings could return to the NHL Western Conference Finals this season. The Kings offer excellent odds based on how their starting lineup should shake up. Anze Kopitar was already one of the top centers in NHL. Now, he’ll get major help on the offensive end from starting left-winger Ilya Kovulchuk. Kovulchuk has 417 goals in 816 games. That’s a goal every other game. He’s also produced 399 assists. That’s an assist every other game.

Kovulchuk should help the offense while the defense remains one of the top in NHL. Don’t sleep on the Kings this season.
