NHL Picks Feb 6th – 12th

NHL Picks Feb 6th – 12th

Now that football season is over, we can turn our full attention to NBA, College Hoops, and the NHL. I’ve got three picks for this week in NHL. On Friday, does Tampa Bay have any shot versus tough Minnesota on the road? What’s going to happen when Boston hosts Vancouver at home in a big game in the Garden this Saturday? Then, on Sunday Feb. 12, Minnesota is at home again versus Detroit in NBC’s Game of the Week. Does Detroit have any shot versus the Wild?

NHL Picks Feb 6th – 12th

Tampa Bay at Minnesota
When:  Friday, Feb. 10 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Xcel Energy Center, St. Paul, MN

Analysis: To show you how deep the Atlantic Division is this season, Tampa Bay is in last place with a 23-24-4-2 record. The Lightning must make a move or two to catch Montreal, Ottawa, Boston, and the improved Toronto Maple Leafs to even make it to the playoffs.

Battling a team like Minnesota on the road this Friday probably won’t help. Minnesota is ahead in the Central Division, some believe to be the toughest division in professional hockey, with a 34-12-3-2 record.

At home, the Wild is stout. Minny has a 17 and 6 record at home. The over is a decent pick as well since the over is 12-8-3 in Wild games on their ice. Tampa Bay could be in some trouble on Feb. 10.

Pick: Minnesota

Vancouver at Boston
When:  Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: TD Garden, Boston, MA

Analysis: By the time Vancouver battles Boston, they will have taken on strong Columbus and tough Nashville on the road already this week. That’s not good for a team with a 6-15-1-2 road record. Do the Canucks have any shot versus Boston this Saturday?

I don’t think so. While Vancouver is only ahead of Arizona in the Pacific standings, the Bruins are ahead of Toronto and behind the rival Canadians and Ottawa in the Atlantic. Boston only has a 12 and 13 record at home to start the week.

They could get at least one more win on their own ice when Vancouver comes to the TD Garden this Saturday. I like Boston.

Pick: Boston

Detroit at Minnesota
When:  Sunday, Feb. 12 at 3:00 pm ET
Where: Xcel Energy Center, St. Paul, MN

Analysis: Minnesota averages a full goal above what they allow on average per game. The Wild score 3.3 goals per while allowing only 2.3 goals per. That’s one of the reasons why they are so tough. Somehow, although the other stats don’t imply that they’d be this good, the Wild have put together a terrific record.

Like Tampa Bay earlier in the week, it’s tough to see Detroit scoring enough against Minnesota’s defense in this battle on Sunday, Feb. 12. The Wild is healthy while the Red Wings are without some key players the rest of the season.

Minnesota takes another one this week.
