NHL Picks Thanksgiving Week

Thanksgiving Weekend is usually a great time for NHL. My NHL picks for turkey week start on Thanksgiving eve, Wednesday. Will it be Philadelphia or Tampa Bay on Nov. 23? Can Chicago head west to San Jose and put a beat down on the Sharks on Wednesday? On Thursday, who wins in a battle between the hot NY Rangers and rival Philadelphia?

NHL Picks Thanksgiving Week

Philadelphia at Tampa Bay
When:  Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 pm ET
Where: Amalie Arena, Tampa, FL

Analysis: The Lightning have heated up. Although Montreal remains the top team in the Atlantic Division, Tampa Bay has won 7 out of their last 10 going into the week. The Lightning have won 4 in a row. That’s impressive.

Tampa Bay battles Nashville on the road before this Wednesday tilt against the Flyers. Does Philly have any shot of slowing down TB? Not really. Tampa Bay just beat Philadelphia 3 to 0 on Nov. 19. They figure to take down the Flyers on Nov. 23 as big favorites.

Pick: Tampa Bay

Chicago at San Jose
When:  Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 10:30 pm ET
Where: SAP Center, San Jose, CA

Analysis: Chicago has become the top team in NHL, not just in the Western Conference. The Blackhawks, like the Lightning, are on a tear. They’ve won 8 out of their last 10 to start the week. Although they’ve only gone 3 and 1 in their last 4, not quite as hot as TB, they certainly appear poised to continue their great run.

Chicago battles Edmonton earlier in the week before this game against San Jose. The Sharks could present a problem to the hot Blackhawks who lost 0 to 2 to San Jose the last time that they faced them.

I’ll back San Jose, who has climbed to fourth in the Pacific Standings, to beat Chicago on Thanksgiving Eve.

Pick: Chicago

NY Rangers at Philadelphia
When:  Friday, Nov. 25 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PA

Analysis: It’s tough to look past the Rangers in their Friday match up with Philadelphia. No team has been more impressive this NHL Season than the New York Rangers. Is it early? Sure, it is. But NYR plays in the deepest division in professional hockey, the Metropolitan.

Stanley Cup defending champion Pittsburgh resides in the Metro Division. So does top squad Washington. The Rangers have lost their last 2 to start the week. Plus, they battle the Pens twice before even taking on Philly on Nov. 25.

Still, I like them against the Flyers.

Pick: NY Rangers
