Men’s Ice Hockey Quarterfinals Picks From Sochi

After a wild and crazy qualifying round, it’s time to make some Men’s Ice Hockey quarterfinals free picks! All games are slated for Wednesday, February 19th with specific game times listed next to the matchups. If you want to see all the lines, just head to the Olympic Hockey section of our sportsbook! Listed is my preferred side on each matchup.

SWEDEN (-3.5 -125) over SLOVENIA
Sweden and Slovenia open the quarterfinals in the Sochi Winter Olympic Men’s Hockey Tournament.
Starts: 02/19/2014 03:00AM
Bolshoy Ice Dome
Sochi
Russia

For the record Sweden is a -2500 favorite on the moneyline, so take that for what it means. This Swedish team is a dangerous asset on the open ice and they have a great mix of veteran leaders, young gunners and a staggeringly strong defensive line. There’s no reason to overthink this game. This is going to be a massacre.

RUSSIA -180 over FINLAND
Russian and Finland face-off in quarterfinals in the Sochi Winter Olympic Men’s Hockey Tournament.
Starts: 02/19/2014 07:30AM
Bolshoy Ice Dome
Sochi
Russia

The host team got completely hosed in that matchup against Team USA and will be out for revenge. This is still the second best roster in terms of pure talent, and the home ice advantage is undeniable. While Finland has had a great tournament, I just don’t see how they stop Russia. This Men’s Ice Hockey quarterfinals betting matchup is academic.

CANADA over LATVIA
The favorite Canada takes on Latvia in quarterfinals in the Sochi Winter Olympic Men’s Hockey Tournament.
Starts: 02/19/2014 12:00PM
Bolshoy Ice Dome
Sochi
Russia

This could get really ugly. Latvia stunned the Olympics by beating Switzerland on Tuesday in a thrilling 3-1 victory. But now they’re about to run up against the gold medal favorite. Canada has been somewhat quiet, but they’re impossible to leverage against in Men’s Ice Hockey quarterfinals picks despite some heavy odds. The Canadians have been relatively mild throughout the Olympics, and this is a game where they could absolutely rip down the flood gates and terrorize their opponents.

With the American squad looming in the semi-finals, Canada will be in the mood to send a message to the rest of the best in the Men’s Ice Hockey quarterfinals – they are still the team to beat. Ripping apart poor Latvia will definitely do the trick and give Sidney Crosby and Mike Babcock plenty of momentum and much needed confidence. It’s best to stack the Canada moneyline with another one of the bets listed here in some sort of parlay.

CZECH REPUBLIC +2.5 over TEAM USA
The Czech Republic and Team USA face-off in the quarterfinals in the Sochi Winter Olympic Men’s Hockey Tournament.
Starts: 02/19/2014 12:00PM
Shayba Arena
Sochi
Russia

This is a potential nightmare for the high flighty Team USA squad. The Czech Republic just edged Slovakia 5-3 in the qualifying round and are now an underdog heading in to the Men’s Ice Hockey quarterfinals betting round. This team is built around veteran stalwarts like Petr Nedved, Jaromir Jagr, Tomas Plekanec, Marek Ziclicky and Tomas Kaberle. This is a sneaky solid team that has found plenty of success on international ice.

The problem is that Team USA has been on too strong of a roll. Offensively, they’re insane but the real story has been Jonathan Quick, their stoic netminder who has been nothing but business throughout the Olympics. Team USA seems hell bent on destruction in these games, and destined for a clash with Canada in the semi-finals. They’re a great team, but I still prefer the Czech Republic to keep this game closer than most expect.

The moneyline here wont’ have a ton of value for most gamblers. The more fun play, depending on how you want to cheer for this game, is the Czech puckline which should fall in at around +2.5. Obviously I think that the Americans will win. Team USA is great, but as Russia proved, they’re not immovable which is why I like this surly Czech squad to keep things tight in my Men’s Ice Hockey quarterfinals free picks.
