These two titans of futbol have never faced each other on the pitch in a UEFA Champions League final until now. The last time Barca won the title was back in 2011 when they beat the mighty Manchester United 3-1 at the even mightier Wembley Stadium, improving their finals record to four wins and three losses. Juventus’ previous European final appearance was all the way in in 2003 when they lost to AC Milan on penalties. The Italian squad did win the UEFA Cup Finals back in 1996 by beating Ajax. Juventus is 2-5 in finals entering this match in Berlin.

In the current 2014-15 season, FC Barcelona has won 10 of their 12 games, losing only to Paris Saint Germain in the group stage and the second leg of the semifinals against Bayern Munich. The Spanish club has scored 28 goals in this edition of the Champions League, an average of 2.3 goals per game while allowing a mere 0.9 per game.

Barca won group F over PSG, Ajax and Apoel, winning five of their six games in the first stage, then outclassed Manchester City in the round of 16, PSG in the quarterfinals and Bayern Munich in the semifinals. The team is led by the mighty, awe inspiring, ankle breaking striker Lionel Messi who has ten goals and five assists. Teammate Brazilian forward Neymar has nine goals. Lionel Messi, Xavi, and Andres Iniesta could win the fourth UEFA Champions League title for Barca since they joined the club, although Xavi and Messi have only actually played in two finals.

Juventus won seven of their 12 games this season, drawing three and losing twice early in the competition against Olympiakos and Atletico Madrid. The Italians eliminated defending champion Real Madrid in the semifinals last month. Throw in power squads like AS Monaco, and Borussia Dortmund as their victims in the quarterfinals and round of 16, respectively and Juventus is a dangerous football club.

Juventus averages 2.08 goals per game, scoring 25 times total in this competition, and has a tournament’s best 0.6 goals against per game. Their leading scorer is Argentinean Carlos Tevez with seven goals, followed by Spanish striker Alvaro Morato with four. Juve captain Gianluigi Buffon played the 2003 final when his squad lost at Old Trafford to Milan. Teammates Carlos Tevez and Patrice Evra won the trophy with the Red Devils of Manchester United in 2008. They are the only three players on the Italian squad that have participated in the European finals match.

Barcelona and Juventus had faced just once in the Champions League, during the 2002-2003 season when the later eliminated the former in the quarterfinals with a 3-2 combined result.

Barcelona has met Italian teams twice in European finals, beating Sampdoria 1-0 in 1991-92, but losing to AC Milan 4-0 in the 1993-94 season. Barcelona is 3-0 in their last three finals, and Lionel Messi has participated in the last two, scoring on both.

Juventus played just once against a Spanish team in UCL Final, back in the 1997-98 season, losing as favorites against Real Madrid 1-0 in Amsterdam.

Champions League Finals Prediction: Barcelona 3-1.
