World Cup KO Stage Expert Picks

The World Cup is about to kick it into high gear with the knock-out stage. The first four matchups are set and play over two days: Sunday, June 30th and Monday, July 1st.

World Cup KO Stage Expert Picks

France +164 vs Argentina +265
Draw +208
Total 2 Over -105, Under -110
Saturday, June 30

France looked awesomely workmanlike in their Group Stage battles. The French are definitely a decent enough team to beat Argentina. But, France’s lack of real enthusiasm is troublesome.

Argentina was flat out excited after landing the goal in the 86 minute versus Nigeria. Without that goal, Argentina might not have even made the Round of 16. The Argentinians could keep the good times rolling.

Now that Messi and Co. have a taste of victory, I believe they pull off the upset.

Pick:  Argentina

Uruguay +189 vs Portugal +196
Draw +200
Total 2 Over +110, Under -125

Portugal played well in their group. The great Ronaldo had an unreal game versus Spain. That’s how Portugal managed to stamp their ticket to the KO stage.

Ronaldo has nothing on Uruguay superstars Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez. Both showed up against Russia in a dominating 3 to 0 performance. Suarez has 2 goals at this year’s World Cup while Cavani has 1 goal.

Uruguay could dominate the Portuguese. I believe they beat Portugal by at least 2 goals. The Uruguayans are on fire.

Pick: Uruguay

Spain -157 vs Russia +560
Draw +289
Total 2.5 Over +123, Under -138
Sunday, July 1

This Spanish team is different than the ones that played in previous World Cups. They’re ultra-aggressive on offense, meaning Russia could add a goal against Spain’s defense.

That won’t mean much in this battle, though. The reason? Spain’s offense has been unbelievable. Spain scored 6 goals in winning their group. That’s a lot of goals for a team to lay on its opponents in the World Cup. Granted, the Spanish also yielded 5 goals.

To be fair, when Spain decided to play defense, they did. The Spanish beat Iran 1 to 0. That could be the score of this match. More likely, it ends up 3 to 1.

Pick:  Spain

Croatia -114 vs Denmark +418
Draw +208
Total 2 Over -103, Under -112
Sunday, July 1

Croatia’s midfield has been exceptional. Many World Cup analysts discussed Croatia’s midfield as being the very best in the World Cup. By dominating Argentina so thoroughly in group play, the Croatians proved it was the best.

Denmark has virtually no shot in this match on Saturday. Croatia should punish Denmark by beating Hamlet’s kin 2 to 0.

Pick: Croatia
