The Favorites To Win Wimbledon

  • Novak Djokovic 5/4
  • Andy Murray 3/1
  • Roger Federer 11/2
  • Stan Wawrinka 14/1

Stan Wawrinka stunned Novak Djokovic (but not me) to win last month’s 2015 French Open and claim the second grand slam title of his suddenly blossoming career.

Still, Djokovic won last year’s Wimbly title and has looked pretty much unbeatable this year – until falling to the ‘Stanimal’ at Roland Garros.

World No. 2 Roger Federer reached the quarters at the French Open and won this weekend at Halle Germany for the eighth time. If Federer (that’s become a popular saying recently) can dial up his serve like he did against Andreas Seppi in the Halle final on Sunday, he could bag a record seventh Wimbledon title.

Last but not least, clearly, World No.3 Andy Murray still has the game to beat any player on the planet not named Novak Djokovic. Murray’s run to the French semis was encouraging to say the least.

Legitimate Contenders To Win Wimbledon

  • Rafael Nadal 12/1
  • Grigor Dimitrov 16/1
  • Milos Raonic 20/1
  • Kei Nishikori 25/1
  • Tomas Berdych 25/1
  • Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 40/1
  • Nick Kyrgios 40/1

I probably shouldn’t have either Rafael Nadal or Grigor Dimitrov in my legitimate contenders’ category, but the oddsmakers seem to think they’ve both got a shot – even if I don’t.

I’m thinking both, Milos Raonic and Kei Nishikori are about due to win the first grand slam titles of their respective careers – so anything’s possible for the pair, here and moving forward in the near future.

Tomas Berdych and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga keep coming up short here year after year, but they’ve got the firepower it takes to win it all, even if they both need a checkup from the neck up.

Nick Kyrgios is the up-and-coming young gun that bounced Rafa out of last year’s tournament, but he’s a bit too loose strategically at this point of his young career. Still, his big serve and solid movement will give him a shot to make more Wimbledon headlines in 2015.

Longshots To Win Wimbledon

  • Juan Martin Del Potro 25/1
  • Marin Cilic 25/1
  • Bernard Tomic 100/1
  • Ernests Gulbis 100/1
  • Jerzy Janowicz 100/1
  • John Isner 100/1
  • Alexandr Dolgopolov 125/1
  • Gaël Monfils 150/1

I like Alexandr Dolgopolov and Gaël Monfils out of this group – and I guess that should say it all seeing as how both supremely athletically-gifted players play to a drum beat that only they – and dogs – can hear.

My Top Three Picks To Win Wimbledon

Roger Federer

I see absolutely no reason why Roger Federer can’t win the 2015 Wimbledon title, even if he’s not quite the player he used to be a few years ago. Federer is still capable of beating any player in the world and simply needs to put together about four consecutive matches where he plays at his highest level. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, but I still believe Mr. RF has another grand slam title in him.

Novak Djokovic

I’m no damn fool. Novak Djokovic is the undeniable best player on the planet these days – and the favorite to win here even if I did just pick Fed for the upset.

Milos Raonic

I love the big-serving Canadian’s game – and mental fortitude. If Raonic can stay away from the untimely backhand error, I think he could pull off the first grand slam win of his career. I mean, really, when players win their first career slam titles, no one really expected it at the time.
