Men’s U.S. Open Tennis Odds and Picks
Men’s U.S. Open Betting Favorite: Novak Djokovic +105
The world’s number one ranked tennis player has had an awesome 2019. He’s only won 3 singles titles, but when you realize the tournaments he has won, it’s obvious Novak prefers to save his best for the major events. Djokovic took the Australian Open over King of Clay Rafael Nadal back in January, beating Rafa in straight sets.
Djokovic also beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4 to win the Mutua Madrid Open. His third win this year happened at Wimbledon. Djokovic outlasted Roger Federer in a match that’s already a classic among tennis fans. No doubt, Djokovic will be at the top of his game once he steps onto the Flushing Meadows courts. The real question is can Novak take a third major this year even though he had some trouble in his last tournament played? Daniil Medvedev upset Novak 6-3, 3-6, 3-6 in the Western & Southern Open Semifinals.
Djokovic could bounce back and win. The chances are he faces a determined Nadal or Federer in the U.S. Open Finals. One of those rivals could stop his march to three major wins in 2019. At the odds, Djokovic is a play against.
Men’s U.S. Open Smart Pick: Roger Federer +700
At first glance, Roger Federer also looks like a play against. Federer will enter the U.S. Open having gotten upset by Andrey Rublev at the Western & Southern Open. Rublev is a decent tennis player. However, he beat FedEx in the third round.
Based on that, Federer offers underlay odds at +700. When we handicap tennis players, we don’t just look at a single match, though. Overall, Federer’s been great in 2019 with 38 wins and only 5 losses. Like Djokovic, he’s taken 3 ATP titles this year: the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, the Miami Open, and the Noventi Open.
He almost upset Djokovic at Wimbledon. Federer offers much better odds than Rafael Nadal. If you’re taking a shot against Djokovic, Federer is the play.
Men’s U.S. Open Longshot Pick: Stefanos Tsitsipas +2800
Medvedev is a good play at +1200, but we should look for more value if we believe someone other than Djokovic, Nadal, or Federer wins the U.S. Open. The player offering the most value with a shot could be Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Tsitsipas’s best finish at the U.S. Open was making it to the second round last year. That doesn’t bode well for his chances. The reason to like him, though, is because he’s won 2 tournaments this year, the Open 13 Provence and the Millenium Estoril Open. Tsitsipas lost to Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open Semifinals. That’s a sign he can hang with the Big 3.
He’s also only 21-years-old. He can definitely improve. He might improve enough at the U.S. Open to take the title.
