Can Roger Federer Beat Novak Djokovic For the 2015 Men’s Wimbledon Title?

Roger Federer has been troubled little on his way through to his 10th Wimbledon semifinal.

Roger Federer versus Novak Djokovic is one of the great rivalries in tennis history. The 2 men have faced each other multiple times with Federer actually having the upper hand, but only slightly. Out of 39 matches between the 2, Federer has won 20 while Djokovic has won 19.

The single difference shows how close these 2 are to each other. On any given day, it could be Federer to wins. Recent history at Wimbledon proves that for Federer to win the latest incarnation of this rivalry, he’s going to have to be steady when Djokovic makes that final, brilliant push. In the 2014 Wimbledon Final, Federer won the first set and the fourth set. Djokovic took home the fifth set by a score of 6 to 4. It was a brilliant piece of work by Djokovic in order to win the match after Federer won the fourth set 7 to 5. Based on the fourth set score, Federer most likely played himself out of contention for the final set. He’s going to have to be much more cognizant of his energy level in this match. Federer has to understand that Djokovic usually gets better the longer the match goes on, meaning that if Federer isn’t ready for the final set, Djokovic’s going to be able to beat him and tie the rivalry.

Djokovic barely survived Anderson, but demolished Cilic early and Gasquet in the semis.

The only time that Novak Djokovic appears to be in any trouble in any match is when he gets behind in the first set. In Round 3 during this Wimbledon Tournament, Djokovic beat Tom 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. But in Round 4, Djokovic got into trouble versus Anderson because he lost the first 2 sets to 7-6, 7-6. Novak did bounce back in the final 3 sets versus Anderson 6-1, 6-4, 7-5 to win the match.

It appears that Djokovic may have gotten rid of any issues. He dominated Cilic in the quarterfinals 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. In the semifinals, he took out Gasquet 7-6, 6-4, 6-4. Although Federer presents a different situation, it looks like Djokovic is going to be on top of his game for the championship. The biggest problem he may face is giving up the first set to Federer again like he did at the 2014 Wimbledon Final. If that happens, coming back and beating Federer may not be possible, Djokovic has to take home that first set.
