Why Bet on Stipe Miocic Odds at +110
The best reason to back Stipe Miocic in this bout is that he’s been very impressive in winning four straight fights and seven of eight dating back to 2013.
However, you should also know that no heavyweight in UFC history has made more than two straight title defenses since Mark Coleman won the inaugural title way back in 1997. Former champ Cain Velasquez was the last fighter to pull off the feat when he defended his belt by beating Antonio Silva in May of 2013 and ironically, Junior dos Santos later that year in October.
Now, the 34-year-old Stipe Miocic (16-2) will try to accomplish the rare feat after winning the title almost one year ago by beating Fabricio Werdum and following that up with a successful defense against Alistair Overeem via a stunning first-round KO (punches).
The win against Overeem was one of four straight KO wins by Miocic since he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Junior dos Santos at their UFC on FOX headline bout in December of 2014.
Miocic is a wrestler first and foremost, but he’s also managed to rack up an impressive 12 knockouts in his 16 career wins while recording three decision wins and one victory by way of submission. Miocic has also been on the wrong end of one KO loss and the one decision loss to dos Santos.
Why Bet on Junior dos Santos Odds at -130
There are a couple of reasons to back Junior dos Santos (18-4) at UFC 211 starting with the fact that he’s already beaten Stipe Miocic. Then, there’s also the fact that dos Santos is also a former champ who won the title with an emphatic first round KO win (punches) against Cain Velazquez back in 2011. Junior dos Santos is also a year younger than Stipe Miocic, so there’s that as well.
The bad news is that dos Santos has been wildly inconsistent is alternating wins and losses over his last six fights, despite beating Ben Rothwell at UFC Fight Night in April of 2016.
Dos Santos specializes in boxing and Brazilian Ju-Jitsu and has recorded a dozen wins by way of knockout, two via submission and four by way of decision. Dos Santos ha also suffered a pair of KO losses, one decision loss and one submission loss in his career.
UFC 211 Analysis Expert Prediction
I’m going to get right to the point by saying that Stipe Miocic is the right pick to get the win against Junior dos Santos for several reasons.
First and foremost, Miocic has looked absolutely phenomenal in winning each of his last four fights all by way of knockout while Junior dos Santos has split his last six outcomes evenly while suffering a pair of losses to Cain Velazquez and a second round TKO loss to the same Alistair Overeem that Miocic put to sleep in the first round in his last bout.
Last but not least, I think Stipe Miocic is going to go all-out to get some revenge for his loss against dos Santos, particularly seeing as how the defeat came by way of a decision.
