Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov UFC 209 Odds & Pick

Okay MMA betting enthusiasts, if you didn’t know, UFC 209 promises to be one of the most exciting fight cards in recent memory even if it isn’t quite getting the same hype and media exposure of a Connor McGregor bout.

You see, not only will you be able to make a series of value-packed picks on this weekend’s quickly approaching UFC 209 card, but you’re going to be treated to a thrilling affair between two guys that really don’t like one another at all when Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov throw down in the co-main event interim lightweight title bout.

When I say there’s bad blood between these two, there really is –and better yet – it’s all real.

The March 4 fight is actually the third time the two fighters have been scheduled to meet, in the Octagon but injuries have prevented this intriguing fight from taking place prior to UFC 209.

Now, let’s examine this bout before I offer up my expert pick.

UFC 209 takes place March 4, live from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The event’s main card airs live on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

The drama at last week’s press conference all started when Nurmagomedov offered up his prediction on how the co-main event will play out next Saturday night.

“March 4, I’m going to make history. I’m going to break this guy,” Nurmagomedov said. “He may think he’s tough but once [the] cage door closes, me, him alone inside the cage I’m going to break this guy.”

“You ain’t breaking [expletive],” Ferguson responded.

“You guys are going to see f—-ing fireworks. This should be the main event,” Ferguson said. “I don’t know why Stephen Thompson and Tyron Woodley are the main event. This is the s—t everybody’s talking about.”

“A lot people are waiting for this fight. This is real high level. In my opinion, this is the greatest matchup in lightweight history in the UFC,” Nurmagomedov said. “I don’t want to talk too much about this fight. Everybody knows I made this fight. Tony knows I made this fight. He tried to run away.”

Why Bet On Tony Ferguson (22-3 MMA, 12-1 UFC)

The 33-year-old Ferguson specializes in 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Capoeira, Kickboxing, Wrestling and Muay Thai.

Ferguson has won nine straight fights and comes into this title bout off a unanimous decision win over Rafael dos Anjos at The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 3 Finale on November 5.

Ferguson has recorded nine wins via KO, eight by way of submission and five via decision. He’s also suffered one submission loss and a pair of decision losses in his career.

Why Bet On Khabib Nurmagomedov (24-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC)

The 28-year-old Nurmagomedov has mostly overwhelmed each of his eight UFC opponents with his wrestling and grappling and comes into this title bout off a third round submission (kimura) win over Michael Johnson, the last man to defeat Ferguson, at UFC 205 this past November.

Nurmagomedov specializes in sambo, judo, freestyle wrestling and pankration and has recorded an identical eight wins by way of KO, submission and decision.

UFC 209 Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov Pick

While I really like Tony Ferguson and believe he’s going to give Khabib Nurmagomedov a really tough way to go in this bout, in the end just can’t go against the undefeated title hopeful.

I know Ferguson represents arguably the stiffest test of his UFC career, but Nurmagomedov has been able to figure out each of his eight UFC opponents and I believe he will figure out Ferguson as well.

While Ferguson is undeniably one of the greatest wrestlers on the face of the planet, Nurmagomedov is the more versatile fighter with more tricks in his bag. I like Khabib Nurmagomedov to get the third round submission win.

Pick: Khabib Nurmagomedov
