Why Bet On Tyrone Woodley (16-3-1)

Woodley specializes in wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and had won three straight fights before earning a draw against Thompson in his last bout at UFC 205 in November. Woodley won the welterweight title by beating veteran banger Robbie Lawler in a first round knockout (punches) at UFC 201 in July.

Woodley has recorded six wins via KO, five by way of submission and five more via decision. He has also suffered one knockout loss and two decision losses in his UFC career.

Why Bet On Stephen Thompson (13-1-1)

Thompson specializes in American Kickboxing and Kempo Karate and had won seven straight bouts prior to earning a draw against Woodley at UFC 205 in November.

Woodley has recorded seven wins via KO, one victory via submission and five more by way of decision. Thompson has also been on the wrong end of one decision loss in his career and the aforementioned draw.

Now, let’s get on to my fight analysis.

Woodley vs. Thompson 2 UFC 209 Pick

If you didn’t see the first bout between these two, then you should know that Tyrone Woodley’s game plan was to sit back and draw Stephen Thompson, a natural counter puncher, to lead.

Early in the fight, Woodley’s game plan exposed Thompson’s lack of offense and got him in trouble where Woodley is by far the better fighter on the ground. Woodley also nearly finished the bout with a powerful strike that knocked Thompson back against the cage and on the ground where he nearly finished off Thompson with a guillotine choke hold.

The bottom line for me in this bout is that, if Tyrone Woodley can get Stephen Thompson to the ground, which I believe he will, then this time around it’s going to be lights out.

However, if Thompson can keep this fight upright, he could expose Woodley with his superior kickboxing skills.

I believe that Woodley is going to see where he failed to finish off Thompson in their last fight and that he’ll make a few changes to make sure he finishes this time around. Tyrone Woodley is the bigger, much stronger fighter in this matchup and the only one with one-strike knockout power. Stephen Thompson won’t go down easily, but he will go down, in a third round KO.
